The first sports title for Nintendo's Wii showcases the platform's unique controller and its potential for revitalizing conventional genres. Versions of tennis, baseball, golf, bowling, and boxing are included in this collection designed for gamers of all backgrounds. In tennis, the Wii Remote is held like a racket, with onscreen athletes responding to the direction and speed at which players swing the input device. Lobs, serves, backhands, and smashes are all performed by moving the controller in lieu of pressing buttons. Both singles and doubles matches on multiple court surfaces are available, with the latter supporting up to four players simultaneously. Wii Sports (Wii, 2006) great neophyte practice at a very affordable price.
With the recent release of Wii U systems the early adopters have done what early adopters do, caused the older Wii units to become obsolete. Obsolete, at least, in the eyes of those that must have the latest and greatest. To those of us who had balked at adopting the last Wii, (Nintendo), on the basis of cost, this is a godsend. Wii consoles and accessories, even brand new, are all over the place at prices much reduced. This is a very advanced system with a great number and variety of games available, all at better prices than before. The Wii Sports (Wii, 2006) was a popular game to be bundled with complete Wii setups 8 years ago. It contains some pretty basic sports games with graphics typical of the time. Meaning not so hot. But beyond that it teaches the new user of this older system the ins and outs of the peripheral accessories. With a bit of practice I was all set to get started playing my latest game acquisition, Mario Kart. For a person with six grandsons this is a game I have got to get competent at. Thanks to the couple of weeks of Wii Sports practice I'm up and running.

Pros + Fun & Addictive. + Easy to Learn. + Comes with the system. Cons - No Nintendo Characters whatsoever. - Graphics have no detail or real quality. - Gameplay is almost too simple at times. - Controls may be a little too sensitive & make it easy to mess up in game. Comments Wii Sports is a fun game no doubt & at least its free. Mastering the nunchuck may take some getting use to. This game has a tremendous drain on your arm strength if you play for too long. Expect soreness in the morning. At least its exercise though. There are a few problems in the gameplay but I think its mostly the sensitive nature of the wii remote. Tennis is where you may notice this the most when you start hitting balls out that you think should have stayed inbounds. Verdict If you ... Pros + Fun & Addictive. + Easy to Learn. + Comes with the system. The game that brings families together
Ahh Wii sports, the game that brings families together. Recently I have been playing this a lot. Bundled with the Wii, the game is very addictive, just not very deep. This game is funner with 2 people. As a special bonus, all the Miis that you make from the Wii you can play and it's just random. Now, let's talk about each of the 5 games: Golf - Well, golf is golf. The golf is what surprised me a lot. The game is actually a lot of fun, and you can get addicted to it very fast. The Wii mote is great with it, it feels like your actually swinging. The only difference is you can use one hand if you want. Baseball - Now heres a game that really shines on Wii Sports- This is my pick out of the games. Boxing - It's too bad if you aren't getting a extra nunchuck with a extra controller because then you can't play 2 player. You block by putting your nunchuck and wii mote together around your body. Then just punch regular, simple as that. Too bad that they made it split screen, they could've just made it the whole screen. Bowling - Realistic style and... you bowl! Anyways, there is a flaw in this game that I have found. Well I dunno if it's really a flaw, but if you bowl like a like a girl (you just put the wiimote between you legs and move it up), it's basically a strike. Tennis - Ahh, another tennis game. I've so many memories of Mario Tennis on the N64. This just as great as baseball. Simple and fun, just swing. Thats about all there is to it. This game can be played 4 player. If you play 1 or 2 players you have to guys that do the same movements when you swing. Closing Comments Overall, Wii Sports is a very good game. This game shows what the Wii is capable of. I don't know if I would've gotten iit if it wasn't pañcked in, but, once you try it, you get hooked on it. Ratings Gameplay: 8.5/10 It's fun. Period. Replay Value: 10/10 Family and friends will keep you coming back to Wii Sports. Graphics: 6.0 Well...they're plastic dolls. But there are no slowdowns and the style is cool. Sound: 8.0 Nice music, but not something as memorable as Zelda.

Most people probably would not have bought it if it was not included, but have come to love it after playing it. As you probably know, there are 5 games included: Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Golf and Boxing. What you may not know is that each game has side games you can play under the heading of TRAINING. I think this is where the game really excells. There are 3 different mini games you can play for each sport that help make you better at the activity you are training for. For example, in Tennis, you can practice hitting balls over the net. The longer you play, the faster they get and after each 10 hits, you move up to the net for 5 hits. Another activity in tennis is hitting a target on a wall that moves each time you hit it. This is alot like racquetball and is my favorite game. It teaches you how to aim the ball by swinging early or late. One catch is that if you hit the wall in the same place too many times, it makes a hole in the wall that the ball can go through and end your turn. I have gone so long that there was a hole larger than the target. You have to try and aim away from the hole, but still be able to go back and forth across the wall. One of the side activities on Bowling is picking up simple spares that increase with difficulty after each successful throw. A better game is where you only have to hit one pin, but there are barriers in the lane. You must be able to spin your ball, jump it over a close wall and aim with a little english on the side. It can be fun and frustrating as you figure it out through trial and error. Anyway, you get the picture. The 5 sports are great, but the training activities add 15 more items to do, which are highly addictive. One last thing...there is also a fitness section of the game. You can do this once a day. You get 3 activities to try and it measures you on speed, stamina and strength. The best you can get is 20 years old, which is harder than it sounds. It displays your age each time and tells you if you have gained any years or lost years. It can be embarrassing if your children consistently are in better shape than you. However it motivates you to improve and you can get a good workout, especially with Boxing and Tennis. Once you reach the PRO level, the game really gets tougher. This is a great game and everyone in the family will enjoy it, regardless of their age. Nintendo scored big by including this with their new system. It shows off the versatility of the Wii and gets you used to the new controller. As I said in the title... JUST TRY IT AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!

It really allows players and watchers alike to be in the game and in the environment. Even for those who aren't huge sports fans, like myself, Wii Sports will catch anyone's interest. There are five games to choose from: golf, bowling, tennis, boxing, and baseball. Each game offers its own excitement and qualities. For instance, the boxing game requires the nunchuk controller attachment for right and left handed punching. The games will keep you playing for long amounts of time and also give you a decent amount of exercise to burn off all of the pounds you've gained by playing past consoles ... You can really hear the tennis ball hit the tennis racket, or your fist smashing into your opponent's face. Your remote vibrates sometimes, too, giving you an even more realistic effect to your gaming experience. There could be more difficulty levels for some of the games, and more holes for the golf game, but other than that, Wii Play is a great game for anyone. The games aren't just demos, but they're fully playable games that you can enjoy for years to come.
