  • The Quick and the Dead (DVD, 2003) Louis L'amour

Pretty good old western movie about a Pennsylvania school teacher and his family heading west to the Big Horn Mountains in the 1870's. Forced to leave their wagon train following an outbreak of cholera, the McKaskel family, Duncan, Kate, and their ten year old son Tom, are traveling all alone across the plains. As they pass through whats left of a ghost town, they have the misfortune of crossing paths with a gang of outlaws who instantly plan to rob them of their horses, mules, and all valuables. One of the outlaws is only interested in Mrs. McKaskel, (Kate Capshaw) who is very pretty. They probably plan to kill Mr.McKaskel (Tom Conti) and his son. At the same time, a frontiersman, Con Vallian (Sam Elliott) arrives in this small town. He is tracking a halfbreed Indian who had led a ...

  • The Quick and the Dead

This story was about the challenges a family faces on their travels to the West. Sam Elliot portrays a halfbreed who places himself in the position of guardian to a very naive family. The folks did not realize they were in grave danger, especially the wife. There was no law in the west and folks took it upon themselves to do whatever they pleased, whether it was morally right or wrong! These people found out the hard way and with Sam Elliot's guidance they found out what to do to survive. Great actors, Tom Conti, Kate Capshaw, Sam Elliot, etc. This movie was filmed in Arizona and has breathtaking scenery. I really liked this movie because it was well acted, scenery was great and so was the music score.

  • Another great Sam Elliott movie

I had not seen or heard of this before...watched it out of curiosity, mainly because of Q&D made later. I love Sam Elliott & this movie is SO much better than the other one. All of the characters in this movie were entertaining as well. Tom Conti & Kate Capshaw were believable & held there own. Elliott showed more depth in his character than you normally see in a part. Rough but gentle...all I can say is MORE ELLIOTT. Why haven't we seen more of him?

  • A Great Western

The Quick And The Dead followed Louis L'amour's novel, of the same name, fairly closely. It has all the elements of a great western There is the hero, the villains, good winning out over bad, the love interest, and the cowboy riding away. The cast was excellent, the directing was top notch, and the story held my interest to the end.
