Pac-Man for the NeoGeo Pocket Color is an adaptation of Namco's 1980 blockbuster coin-op game of the same name. As in the original, the object is to guide a yellow pie-shaped character through a maze filled with dots -- all while avoiding four ghosts. As Pac-Man moves around the maze, he automatically opens and closes his mouth to consume the dots; clear the screen and play will resume on a new maze with faster ghosts. The four ghosts are identified by color and each possesses unique traits: the red Blinky is the fastest of the bunch; female Pinky likes to ambush Pac-Man; blue Inky wanders around aimlessly; and orange Clyde always follows Pac-Man whenever he can. If any of the ghosts should catch up with Pac-Man, or if the yellow one should accidentally run into a ghost, the player will lose one of three lives. To make things a little easier, each maze features a Warp Tunnel that allows Pac-Man to exit from one side of the maze so he can reappear on the opposite side. Pac-Man can also turn the tables and munch on the ghosts for a short time after gobbling one of the four Power Pellets located in each corner of the maze. For every ghost eaten in succession, you will earn from 200 to 1,600 points, and bonuses can be earned by snacking on one of five fruits found on each stage: cherry, strawberry, orange, apple, and melon. Since every 10,000 points gives you an extra Pac-Man, it pays to keep munching away as you advance through the mazes! Two options are available for NeoGeo Pocket Color owners: playing the game using a scrolling maze or from a fixed-screen maze. If a scrolling maze is selected, Pac-Man will appear larger on a portion of the maze as it scrolls up, down, left, or right depending on the direction chosen. For the arcade purists out there, the full-screen option will allow you to play the game as it was originally designed: the entire maze is displayed on one screen. No matter which option you decide on, expect to see the original "Coffee Break" intermission in between mazes!

Perfect port of the arcade classic comes to Neo Pocket
You all know Pac-Man, probably the world's most well-known video game character. Chances are you have also played the original Pac-Man at some point in your life as well, either in the arcade or on a console. Well, Pac-Man for the Neo-Geo Pocket color is just that, a perfect arcade port to SNK's short-lived handheld. There are two modes of play, but is really just 2 screen sizes. You can play with the whole screen in view, or scrolling. If you play full-screen, everything is scaled down smaller to fit the NGPC's screen. Either mode is quite playable, but the joystick control can be a little iffy due to its 8 way direction. For example, trying to turn left could result in down, or not at all if you accidentally push the stick in between directions. The full retail version of pack Man for ... The full retail version of pack Man for the Neo-Pocket came with joystick rings to allow for sharper 4-way direction, but if you are buying the game on ebay, chances are it will be used, and loos without box or instructions. The game is still playable, but you may need to get used to it a little before you can run the pac-man table like in the arcades. My only real gripe about this game is that while it is an excellent arcade port, I would have liked to see something that would better take advantage of the Neo Geo Pocket's hardware. An enhanced graphics mode or Pac-Man mini games would have been an awesome addition, or even the inclusion of Ms. Pac-Man or Pac-Mania could have made this a must buy title for the NGPC. Instead, I'd only recommend it to the Neo collector or to those die-hard Pac-Man fanatics who need to get their Pac-Fix on the go.

Great port!
A must for any neo geo pocket collection. Plays very smooth. Especially liked playing on this platform with the thumbpad. Great graphics. Far superior to atari 2600. 4 stars. 5 if I can backlight my pocket.

Best Portable Pac-Man from the Second Millennium
I think this is the best portable Pac-Man conversion of its century (and decade, and millennium...) It looks and sounds a lot like the original arcade game and even preserves the original maze layout with all its dots
