MediEvil tells the tale of Sir Daniel Fortesque, a man with a gift for storytelling. Though he never actually performed any of the wondrous deeds he so often boasted about, the king knighted him and appointed him as the head of the Royal Battalion. You see, the king liked stories, and truthful or not, Sir Daniel's stories were the best. Besides, Gallowmere hadn't seen a war in centuries... After years in exile, the evil magician Zarok returned to the land of Gallowmere with an unholy army in tow. In desperation, the king ordered Sir Daniel to lead his army against that of Zarok's. However, Sir Daniel's battle is short-lived, as the first arrow fired in battle fatally wounds him. The king's army manages to drive back the demon hordes, and to save face, the king declares that Sir Daniel Fortesque died an honorable death only moments after killing Zarok. One-hundred years later, Zarok returns, casting an evil spell over the land that turns all the villagers into beasts of unimaginable evil. In doing so, he also unwittingly raises Sir Daniel from the dead, who must now atone for his ignoble death and defeat the sorcerer. As you traipse across the now cursed land of Gallowmere, you'll need to pick up life bottles and energy vials. The former acts as an extra life of sorts (refilling your energy bar when it is depleted), while the latter tops up your energy. To ensure that you don't lose too much of that vital energy, you'll acquire an arsenal of weapons including a crossbow, broadsword, axe and throwing daggers. Supplies for your weapons can be purchased from Merchant Gargoyles using treasure found on your travels. Sir Daniel's task is a simple one, as he must navigate through each level and destroy any enemies and boss characters that get in his way. By collecting rune stones, locked areas can be accessed, allowing our hero to forge ahead towards his ultimate destiny. As enemies are dispatched, the Chalice of Souls will be filled up. When it's full, Sir Daniel will be able to collect it. In doing so, he is granted access to the Hall of Heroes, where true heroes from a bygone era reward the player with new items and the like. Levels vary in both design and theme, running the gamut from possessed pumpkin patches to malevolent town squares.

lots of character in this game... there was a short list of people in the credits, so you know they could actually have some artistic input. a fun play-through from a different era of game design

amazing
loved playing this game as a kid and waned to add it to my ever growing collection, usually go for more than $50 but i found it for a great price and still in great condition, playing this game again brought back a lot of memories!

One of the PlayStation greats which is completely underrated. This game is a must have. It is a classic hack and slash adventure game but by no means could this be considered a mature game. It has a dark feel to the game which some call a gothic feel which I can definitely see. The game is superbly spooky in a kid friendly way which adults will enjoy as well. The dark feel of this game and the fun adventure play is so great with the lights out and you can just zone in and have fun. I don't understand why this isn't considered one of the best games on PlayStation. Don't let the dated graphics and movement (only d-pad) allow you have a bad experience. Appreciate the game for what it is and you will walk away having played a great game. I so strongly urge you to play this game.One of the PlayStation greats which is completely underrated. Better remembered than played....
I've found this nifty "classic" at a flea market and decided to give it a shot. What I can say is that this game is very overrated & extremely difficult, even where it shouldn't. Here's what to expect: THE GOOD: The creepy tone, dialogue, and many of the FMV scenes are really interesting (some comic) and are what makes this game memorable. THE BAD: (1) THE CAMERA: This is your #1 worst enemy. In many places, it won't face forward so that you can make a safe run. In fact, it will "rotate" on you in many places, making you fall to your death! I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY LIVES I LOST DUE TO THIS! Don't expect it to be friendly like Sypro--the camera is just awful. (2) HORRID DIFFICULTY: Even in the first levels, you'll be ... Later on, you constantly get swamped with several enemies attacking all at once. I just can't see how you can survive much without some kind of cheating. There's no body armor you can get in the game. (3) TOO MUCH EXACT JUMPING: There are far too many jumps that require you, over a short run, require you to hit the directional twice (to run) & hit the jump button in time at the right time. Expect to keep losing tons of lives & repeating levels. Hardcore players may not have much problem with this, but for everyone else this is endless frustration! I was only able to finish this game by activating the Cheat mode within the game. Only then was I able to get through this horrid game. As of this writing I'm selling off this game for good :(

I love this game. Been playing since 1999. Maybe soon I can get to the end as a winner!
