The 1912-D is one of the most common Barber Half Dollars in Mint State, making it a perfect choice (and an excellent value) for type purposes. Literally hundreds of 1912-D Half Dollars have been certified by PCGS in Mint State, mostly in MS63 and MS64. Scores of MS65 examples round out the high end, after which the population drops off dramatically in MS66 until it hits the wall at MS67. This date comes nice, looks nice, and is worth a look.
As a hobbyist for sixty odd years , I’ve collected many coin types and I can attest to the scarcity of the barber series ... barber dimes being the most plentiful of the three denominations ... I would recommend that only the most serious of collectors pursue their collection ... collectors with deep pockets ...

Of course a general review for a coin is tough to write, because the condition of the specific specific you purchase will vary greatly. However, this is a classic American coin, back when they were 90% silver. I like to buy them now and then even if they're in less-than-ideal condition because they will never be worth "nothing" just due to the value of their silver content. Plus, it's nice to have something from our earlier history to hold on to.

This wonderful period in coinage is gone. Inflation is the culprit. Coinage today is so cheaply done. The coin designs today are not. Old sheet music and valentines are a perfect example of nice old things. The 1912D coin I received is a perfect example also of a wonderful so preserved old coin.

I really appreciate PCGS grading. The coins are protected from heirs who too often take to cleaning their inheritance and ruining the numismatic value of their newly received collection. Coins should only be cleaned by professionals. otherwise they are reduced in value by approximately 90%. PCGS is the most highly respected grading service, providing undeniable value to any collection. Whichever grading service you choose, know that you are ensuring the safe storage and lasting protection of a very limited supply of national numismatic treasures.
