Compared to my Olympus E-P1 there are a few differences. First of all the electronic viewfinder, a real asset when you're taking pictures towards the sun. Where the Olympus E-P1 is hardly useable, the electronic viewfinder works very well. The G1 expects the lens to do the stabilazing where the E-P1 has in-camera stabilisation, I have no stabilisation with Olympus lenses, at wide angle no problem, but tele is another thing. I have a Olympus 14-150 and taking pictures at 150mm requires you set the shutter speed at a minimum of 1/400 to have a non shaken picture. Taking pictures at higher ISO is also not really a problem, as long as you stay away of ISO ratings higher then 800, but that goes for a lot of cameras. Also I haven't found any means to adjust contrast and sharpness so far, pictures could be a little more sharp, but that's a personal opinion and in general pictures are of high quality. The body itself is ligthweight so it's no problem to carry it around your neck for several hours. The grip is firm and buttons are easy to reach. Live view is also very fluid and accurate, through the viewfinder and the backscreen. The backscreen can be tilted, witch comes in handy when you're taking pictures where you can't use the viewfinder (for example a small flower, close to the ground). To conclude, maybe not the youngest body around with the latest features, but still a good camera for somebody who knows his way around with apareture, shutterspeed and ISO. Preferably more useable with generic Panasonic lenses since it has no in-camera stablisation, but for general photography it is usable with non tele Olympus lenses (for example Olympus 14-42mm). Pictures are good with realistic colours and saturation altough they could be a little bit more sharp (compared to Olympus). But this is the sort of camera you can take with you when going on holidays, not to big, light weighted and with a wide choise of lenses you can attach to it.Vollständige Rezension lesen
By digital standards this is an "old" camera - c8 years old!! It was the first Micro 4/3 camera made. Yet 12mp still provides good quality and the body design is excellent. After proving the camera body/sensor/screen etc., via an adaptor and some old Contax/Yashica & Canon 35mm lenses, I also bought a Power Zoom 14-42 and a normal 35-100, lens - both lenses provide image stabilisation / anti-shake (unlike my 35mm lenses). I enjoyed this camera so much I added a G6 body (after a week) to keep it company (and for the Video + Mic input option + remote WiFi management of the camera). Yes, the screen & LVF of the G1 are not up to the standard / quality of the G6, but it is still very usable - and, unlike many cameras being made today, it has a fully articulated screen. Function buttons & dials provide a wealth of easily accessed options - and many are changeable via the clear menu system on the screen. No, it's not a touch screen but it still works well via the menu options buttons arranged in a circle on the back of the camera. The wheel switch, at the top of the hand grip (allowing easy switch of exp/speed) took a little getting used to - but now, on the G6, I miss it. This is a well built camera that works well, comes naturally to the hand, and provides lots of extra features - like an auto on/off lvf & screen when you bring the viewfinder to the eye; very handy & battery saving as well. Battery life is good and it has a side fitting SDHC slot behind a sliding cover. This is a "Photo's Only" camera - no video option, but that's what I bought it for. The only "negative" I can mention is the way the surface coating has been worn away a little by nails , in the valley between the hand grip and the lens. A very minor issue, only really noticable when you look for it - the rest of the body has stood up very well to 7-8 years of use. A solid, well designed & well made camera that still stands up very well in today's world. Highly recommended. [So why only 4 stars? Because technology has moved on; but put a modern OLED sceen & viewfinder in, up the sensor to 20mp, like the G6, and you'd have a 5 star camera]Vollständige Rezension lesen

I broke my micro 4/3 camera (an Olympus Epl5) and couldn't afford a new one or a costly repair. I bought this camera as I have had Panasonic LUMIX cameras in the past and, as the oldest model of 4/3 camera it was really cheap and fitted my lenses. I would say it is a far superior camera in spite of its age and being a 9mp camera. It is made quite solidly and I find the controls more ergonomic. I used to shoot mainly on Aperture priority but it is so easy to shift from aperture to shutter speed in manual that I shoot in manual all the time now. The digital viewfinder is excellent and the screen is protected in default but can be turned around. It works fine with my Olympus lenses - the only feature that I don't have is image stabilisation since this is built into the lens and not the body in LUMIX G series. When I can next afford a new camera it will be an upgrade of this one.Vollständige Rezension lesen

This is a great old generation camera- the first M4/3 camera on sale: The mechanics and basic Lumix Kit- Lenses are fantastic -- though the sensor has only a narrow dynamic range that is prone to "clip" highights (about 8 stops useful dynamic range) I have just received one from a successful eBay bid which has made me aware of a problem with the coating of this camera - which is echoed on other websites for this exact model. The rubber coated surface of this camera can turn sticky to the touch over time - showing fingernail marks ++ and dust that sticks to it that is hard to wipe off. Treatment with cleaning agents is reported to make it worse unless you strip the camera surface back to plastic. Old Nikons and Canons were prone to this - but it seems the problem can occur also with Lumix G1sVollständige Rezension lesen

Someone thinks that this camera is actualy old, but it is very good, simple to use, practic. 12 millions pixel are more than sufficient for a good picture. Thanks to good sensor M-Mos and the possibility to record in row
