This is the second chapter of the landmark Heisei (1990s) Gamera trilogy. If you grew up with the cheap and childish Gamera movies of the 1960s and '70s like I did, this new series will be all the more amazing. Director Shusuke Kaneko and special effects genius Shinji Higuchi totally revamped the Gamera series. It's dark, scary and very entertaining! Designed for grown up audiences, the writing is top-rate, the characters drive the stories, and the effects outdo not only their rival 1990s Godzilla films but also many Hollywood films. In "Advent of Legion" a 'meteor' crashes to earth and turns out to be a seed pod for a colony of alien creatures. They appear as man-sized insects, a gigantic insectoid and a huge plant. Their objective is to reproduce by allowing the plant to launch yet another seed pod into space. The insects fiercely defend their plant host. The problem is that in order to launch a seed into space, the plant explodes with the force of a nuclear blast. Gamera come to the defense of Earth in a series of amazing battles filled with incredible effects shots. The Legion creatures are especially impressive. The name "Legion" is taken from the 1000 demons Jesus casts out of the Gerasene man in the Gospel of Mark, chapter 5 ("I am legion for we are many"). Early in the movie, Gamera is swarmed by literally 1000 small creatures. Later, the giant version arrives. The battles are titanic. If you like a good giant monster movie (Kaiju Eiga), you won't find much better! The acting is good, the effects and monsters are amazing and even the science to explain the plot elements is well thought out. Not to be missed!Vollständige Rezension lesen

This is the 2nd movie in the triolgy from director Shusuke Kaneko and it doesn'r disappoint. The story is intense and has great action between the hero Gamera and the adversary Legion. Gamera demonstrates new powers and the movie transitions nicely to the third installment. Any Gamera or Kaiju (giant monster)fan will enjoy.
Its really a great movie. Gamera is a charter that can be loved by all ages. If you are into the Godzilla movies, this is one to add to your collection! My sons from elementary age to high school can say this is one the films that they enjoy watching more than once!
