Best Show and DVD ever made! Super Great Seller! I video taped it many years ago when it was a rerun. It was the favorite show of my three sisters, mother, myself, and many of my friends. We discussed it every week on the playground, and then also in Jr. High. I don't know anyone who didn't like it, or wasn't talking about it at the time. Everyone I know has searched the channels for it. We were even hoping it would go on TV Land. It is a very special one-of-a -kind show because of all the love that was on it between the brothers. Back then, people were not afraid to show sibling love. Now sibling love on TV is reserved for children, such as on re-runs of Full House, or shows like re-runs of Little House On The Prairie. Also, the actors picked for the characters were perfect. They could not have chose anyone better for any of the roles. Robert Brown, Davis Soul, and Bobby Sherman appeared to have a great chemistry to work together. Bridget Hanley was perfect as Candy Pruitt, Nad so were Joan Blondell, Mark Lenard, Susan Tolsky, Henry Beckman, and actually allo f the cast, including the children that came on the second year. The title was catchy. The town was put together nicely. There wasn't too much violence. It was not corny. No sexual content so little kids could watch it too. It was a family show. I bought three copies just for our family alone!Vollständige Rezension lesen
This was my all-time favorite TV show ever -- couldn't be more thrilled to have it now on DVD. The wholesome family quality they achieved during one of the most violent and frightening periods in recent history -- the late '60's -- is amazing. (To put it in context, both Martin Luther King AND Robert Kennedy were murdered just a few months before the show debuted in September 1968.) The overall quality of acting, scenery, title song (surely one of the best ever), and production values is extraordinary. The stories are a little more heavy-handed about the morality than I remembered during its original run (what did I know? I spent the whole hour drooling over Bobby Sherman). But all these years later, the show still holds up so well, and the simple values of loyalty, honor, kindness, and responsibility to yourself and your community, are part of every episode. Others have commented about famous actors who appeared as guest stars. Has anyone noticed that a lot of scripts were written by William Blinn, who went on to write BRIAN'S SONG, one of the great tearjerker made-for-TV movies? Or that Burt Metcalfe, who later produced MASH, was credited with doing casting for BRIDES? Lots of great behind the scenes people were involved with this show. Also, to correct the reviews, the show was NOT based on SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS but on the true story of the Mercer brides who came to the Pacific Northwest around 1870 to marry the men there, so the men could be persuaded to stay at their jobs. And Mercer, who actually was the original Jason Bolt (persuaded the Eastern ladies to come and brought them himself) apparently married one of his own imports -- maybe if the show had gone a third season, we'd have found Jason married to one of them too!Vollständige Rezension lesen
I loved watching this show when I was a teeny bopper. Bobby Sherman was such a cutie. I was surprised to learn that my sister-in-law in Seattle had never heard the theme song, and even more surprised that she'd never even heard of the show. For her birthday, I bought her this set. She watched it with my brother and Mom and really enjoyed it. I've got first dibs on borrowing it when she's done. Now she has a fuller understanding of the Seattle area, from a historical perspective. It was quite a hit in the Northwest. The DVD set brings back great memories.
I bought it because it's not possible to buy it in my Country (Italy); they didn't edited at all as most of the old and best USA series produced. I'm proud my English is good enough to have the possibility to understand the very good dialogues, the original plot. Very well chosen are the actors and the character/actor fusion. Scenes and costumes are pretty good similar to the reality that was. I loved it too, 'cause I've always been and always will be in love with David Soul and his works. Excellent for those who are David's fan and don't want to be bored by guns and fool languange. A wonderful scent of a past we could never live.
Each episode of this series is as well crafted as an MGM production during the golden age of movies. The chemistry and energy of the cast is outstanding. The musical score harkens to the days when the background sounds were a match for the action and dialogue. I remembered watching this show with my family as a kid, but I had forgotten how engaging it was. Susan Tolsky was and is delightful as whacky Biddie Cloom. This show should have continued for many more years! Ordering was effortless and delivery was quick, very satisfied with this purchase.
