This book, if all goes well, will be made into a major motion picture, according to the Dec., 2010 edition of Majesty Magazine. The author, Ken Wharfe, was Princess Dianna's bodyguard, speechwriter, confidant, and tour organizer for the years both before and after her separation from Prince Charles. It was during the trip to Spain (after Charles had broken his arm and was badly hurt enough for it to have required two operations and months of hospitalization) that the lonely Princess confided to her then-bodyguard Wharfe that All Was NOT Well in the Fairy Tale Marriage she had with her Prince...Mr. Wharf went from devoted servant and keen, sympathetic observer to a betrayed and "thrown away toy" of the heartbroken but wary Princess...To say that she had "Trust Issues," even with devoted staff, would be to vastly understate her feelings of isolation and supreme vulnerability. Mr. Wharfe saw (and experienced it all, yet we see a sympathetic portrait of a young and vital, beautiful woman living under tremendous pressure and a larghe dose of fear...His services were cut off rather abruptly, but that does not seem to be reflected in his very understanding portrait of his "Boss," as her employees called Princess Diana. A trace of bitterness lurks at the book's ending, but the reader feels that the author penned a very realistic and almost loving account of one of the most misunderstood women of the last century, who lived under daily pressures an ordinary mortal can barely imagine. One gets a feeling of "Being There" on major post-separation Tours made by the Princess and her small, devoted entourage...And, despite being "let go" abruptly, the author cannot quite hide a respect and a devotion to what is still regarded as a Major Figure in the history of The British Monarchy. A GREAT READ! There are no insights provided into The Princess' character and motivations...which makes the author's accounting of what he saw and did more believable...The Aristocratic Class in Britain seems to have its own way of dealing with It's Own...and Mr. Wharfe, and the reader, feel a bit left out of what it really IS to "be a royal." BUT, one does get a real sense of the heady and sometimes depressing world of working for a Royal...and for capturing this sense of what THAT is like is what makes this book VERY interesting indeed. NOT your average "tell-all," discretion leaves more questions than are answered...which also adds Intrigue to this book...Vollständige Rezension lesen
