i met the once athletic young woman,Joni, in the early 1970s, shortly after her decision to go out publicly with a mission to minister to others with physical challenges. She wanted people to know she was still valuable as she painted a beautiful picture with the brush held in her teeth. She was assisted by a family member. Over the years her vision expanded as she learned to overcome challenges, and she was determined to change societies' image of physical handicaps. She successfully made the average citizen see that when barriers like curbs and small passageways, long walks and narrow parking spots were restricting other citizens from being served equally. She was busy, but still lonely for a partner, a prayer she persistenely hung on to after the young man she loved when the accident happened in her late teens, decided he couldn't live with someone dependent on a wheelchair, someone who couldn't walk. He was counting on God miraculously heal her, and he couldn't accept God if that was not the plan. Joni gave up her doubts and slowly learned/earned empathy for others she really hadn't thought that much about before the accident. Like most, she took her easy mobility for granted. In the meantime God was preparing the most wonderful man, Ken. This man had a heart solely for Joni's heart. Ken was exactly what Joni needed for a loving partner in life and the two of them are world travelers, speaking publicly , but their favorite time is spent with those who are shunned, kept in backrooms where others won't notice them. There love and respect those that are too often denied true acceptance and agape love. Read and weep, be inspired and for some, maybe you won't resent quite so much "handicapped parking spots". These two are at the top of my list of people I have been blessed to know.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The book itself makes it a five star rating. I am so AWED by how Joni lives her life after her accident. When we are teens, we are full of self-identity issues. To have an accident like this at that stage in life is something many people don't recover mentally and emotionally from. That is especially true when you consider that Joni's life is enriched perhaps more than if she had been able to recover totally. The fact that she met Ken and they have such a vibrant life together is beyond AWESOME. She blesses so many people in so many ways. To read her books is to love her and feel as if you are connected with her.

I read Joni's first book years ago... My grandmother had purchased it. That's where I learned about her condition and I prayed for her. And now to see that she has this second book out is wonderful as well. I felt sad for her when the accident first happened and I'm glad to see how much change has taken place. It's a beautiful story.

I bought this book because I have known about Joni and Ken for many years. Their honest, sincere sharing of their story is to encourage others in their marriages. I liked their honesty and heartfelt sharing of their story that others might be encouraged to stand fast in their commitment to each other. It is a great product and I would encourage others to read and share it.
