A Positive Inspirational Story Told Quietly & Humbly
The head coach of the NFL Indianapolis Colts, Tony Dungy has written an incredibly touching biography. For years Dungy and Lovie Smith (coach of the Chicago Bears and good friend of Tony) were considered “too soft’ to be effective leaders. They were also regarded to be two of the finest individuals associated with professional sports: both have genuine character, are humble, give thanks to God instead of themselves, and have a strong sense of family. The players on the Colts feel that kind of closeness to Dungy: a family spirit. Imagine the difficulty of uniting and motivating 44 of the toughest men on the planet into a common goal without resorting to strong-arm tactics that players are more accustomed to. There are many real life lessons in Tony’s biography, but this book is much more than that. They detail how to deal with issues with maturity, humility and thoughts of others first. Does it work? Well, he just won the Super Bowl with that philosophy, and believe me, 100’s of sportswriters woke up the next day with stale egg on their face. Dungy agonized whether to put the heartbreaking story of his son in the book, but finally relinquished to help others who have to somehow come to terms with family tragedies. I've grown so weary of endless sport exposes’ that emphasizes the negative. That is one of the delights I had when reading this book- the absence of sports self-glorification in the Dungy story. This is far from being your average sports tell-all. Despite the disrespect by the Tampa Bay Bucs, despite losing his son, despite taking criticism for being too easy on his players and despite being misunderstood by the sports media, Tony Dungy has emerged positively. 10 years from now his players will glowingly talk about the influence of Coach on their lives. Until then, when the final vindication comes for his selfless efforts, this book: “Quiet Strength” will serve as a monument to old-school values and some of the wonderful results they can bring. The book Quiet Strength is centered on the life story of Tony Dungy. Throughout his book he covers the different obstacle courses he had encountered throughout his life and how God changed him and formed him into the Christian he is today. He starts his book pretty much from childhood on and covers the different aspects of being Dungy, the struggles of being a black quarterback and coach, and the different things that God has done to transform his life and helped him to become the successful Christian he is. I personally think this was a fantastic book and any Christian man would enjoy the read. Dungy does a fantastic job of describing the background of his life and helping the reader see many things that they can apply to their life and help them learn from many of his life lessons. One ... One of those things that I really agreed with him is the way he defines success: “I did the ordinary things as well as I could. I performed to the full limits of my ability. I achieved success.” (150). I love how he describes success and emphasizes that success does not lie within the awards, money, or fame you may get but it is in the effort and time you put into it. You are successful when you put everything you got into something and do the little things right. One other thing that I thought he did a great job of pointing out is putting the Lord first in our lives. During some of our success we forget to thank God or even acknowledge him and sometimes it takes an obstacle in order for us to realize this. It is many things like these two points in Dungy’s book that make it such a great book. This book is great for any man who is seeking out the Lord and trying to grow in their faith and see how God can work in different ways in people’s lives. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone I know.

A book about true "success" in the eyes of a true man, Tony Dungy.
Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy is a book about what it means to truly have “success” in life. The success I am talking about doesn’t necessarily have to do with money or fame. Tony Dungy is a NFL veteran who worked his way up in the professional football coaching realm, winning a Super Bowl in 2007 with the Indianapolis Colts, and is a respected person to this day. Throughout the book, he explains how it was unnecessary for him to abandon his morals and still remain successful in life. This book can apply to anyone’s life, whether a football fan or not. The career path that Tony Dungy chose is a competitive, selfish field that is filled with temptations. When reading this book, I found that strength coming from within is unmatchable and cannot be defeated. Tony Dungy is very good at using ... Bought this book for a Bible Study that our Men;s Group at church is doing. Looks to be a quick and easy read. When Tampa Bay fired Dungy and Gruden took over to lead them to a Super Bowl, I always hoped that Dungy would get another chance to build a team and take them to the Super Bowl. I know that he would have liked to been the coach with Tampa when they went, yet that just was not meant to be. It was apparent to me that Coach Dungy was in fact the man to orchestrate and to build championship caliber teams when Tampa Bay won after he left, and when he had the opportunity to lead Indianapolis to the Super Bowl. He handled himself very well, and he was dignified even in those circumstances. I am glad that he decided to write the book, and give everyone a glimpse into the struggles ... A role model, on and off the field
This book is one of the best I've ever read. Tony Dungy, in a quiet but deliberate manner, tells how his faith and his family, especially his parents, influenced his life on and off the field. He describes his philosophy of coaching, which emphasizes character development as essential to success in football, but more importantly, to successful living. He demonstrates his love for his family and his unwavering respect for those he works for, as well as those who work for him. Success has not changed Tony Dungy. He remains an excellent role model for coaches, players, fans, and any one else interested in developing quality values in life.This book is one of the best I've ever read. Tony Dungy, in a quiet but deliberate manner, tells how his faith and his family, especially his parents, influenced his life on and off the field.
