With only an f/2 max aperture, I was expecting this lens to be a goodall-round performer. Perhaps it was just my copy but edge and corner sharpness is very poor with a lot of smearing, it is only at f/11 that you obtain consistent sharpness across the frame. Centre sharpness throughout is generally excellent, which makes this lens great for certain subjects like portraits, but downright frustrating for others like landscapes. Other than IQ, I have to say that build quality feels poor. The aperture ring especially has a cheap feel to it and is not smoothly turn. All in all, I feel this lens is “you get what you pay for”. I bought it on the back of a web review which compared it favourably to a Leica equivalent. I think that reviewer was either very ignorant or else biased... :(

A Summicron 2.0 for one tenth the price is too good to be true. But all in all I would say it is worth its price. Build quality is good, It connects perfectly to my M2, with distance metering. Looks and feels nice. Corner sharpness at full aperture is quite bad, obvious smearing.Vignetting quite obvious. But the worst drawback is flare due to unsufficient multicoating. In this respect the lens is like Leica lenses from the 50's. Some Nikon lenses I have, for no money at all from the 70's are better! But - I saved $2000 and most pictures will be just about the same as with an original Summicron 35.
