Life is but a scream is about Ray Ferry's attempts to bring back the beloved Baby Boomer magazine "Famous Monsters of Filmland" and his legal tangles with former editor and collector/celebrity Forrest J Ackerman. With any book about a case such as this, one has to realize that there are two sides to everything and while Ferry may be honest in his retelling, it is still his perception. Despite some spelling mistakes, I found the book compelling and hard to put down. Ferry details his beginning friendship with Ackerman, early business dealings and the eventual end to the relationship and his many legal woes. In the end, it seems like the real culprits here are bad agreements, poor communication and outside influence. I was surprised at the restraint Ferry used in painting his portrait of Ackerman, it's not what I was expecting. However, if you are a fan, you may not want to explore this publication. Life is But a Scream also provides an interesting allegory about fandom in general and the power of the internet. I was left feeling sorry for all parties involved.Vollständige Rezension lesen
