This was the first movie from a major studio filmed in "Natural Vision 3-D". After the huge success of the first "Natural Vision 3-D" film "Bwauna Devil"(1953)from an independent studio, Warner Brothers Studio raced to get on the 3-D band wagon. They leased the only existing "Natural Vision 3-D" camera to film "House of Wax"(1953) while building their own camera to film their second "Natural Vision 3-D" feature,"The Charge At Feather River"(1953). The camera was guarded 24/7 because they were in fear of it being stolen. "House of Wax", a remake of the earlier Warner Brothers film "Mystery of The Wax Museum", which is also included in this DVD, is considered one of the best 3-D movies made in the 1950's. And there were a lot. There were 73 movies filmed in 3-D between 1953 and 1954, but only 52 were released in 3-D. The remainder were released flat due to the decline in popularity of 3-D movies. The public preferred CinemaScope and Stereophonic sound and no special glasses were needed. "House Of Wax" launched Vincent Price on the horror film phase of his acting career. I will not go into the story line of the movie, I do not want to spoil the experience of seeing this great film for the first time. "House Of Wax" stands on it's own as a 2-D film, but of course is at it's best in 3-D. On a personal note, this was the first movie I saw in 3D. It was 1953 at the Park Theater in Cobleskill, N.Y. The theater is still operating today. I had no idea what "Three Dimension" was. I put on the special glasses that was given to me upon entering the theater. The lights went down and the curtain opened. I first noticed that the opening credits seemed to extend out from the screen, you could see depth and when an actor threw something, it came right at you. Wow, what a surprising experience that was. My only analog TV left in the house is set up for "Field Sequential" 3-D and I have a 3-D DVD of "House of Wax". I purchased this 2-D copy for viewing in my home theater. With all the votes in, it is sure that Vincent Price, Phillis Kirk, Frank Lovejoy and a very young Charles Bronson will entertain, surprise and possibly scare you in "House Of Wax". Don't forget to turn off all the lights when viewing "House Of Wax"Vollständige Rezension lesen

Movie is very well done - scary enough to keep your attention, but unlike today's "horror" films is presented tastefully. The remake of this film is, in my opinion, a disgrace. Way too much gore in the latest "House of Wax"..

This is a wonderful movie for “horror” buffs. I saw it 64 years ago and have loved the creepy genre ever since. The great Vincent Price-enough said. Perfect for Hallowe’en.
