I was very impressed with the optics in such a small 5" compact telescope! Splitting Castor is easily done in the 26mm eyepiece that gives 93 power. I have an LXD200 10" SCT, but it's not easily brought out to the back patio as this light portable model. The Holmes Comet, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and Uranus were all very impressive in this small aperture scope. My GOTO capability was very very good once the telescope was leveled with a bubble level, location set within 1 minute, and time set to the second. Having done the motor tracking and use of High Precision in the GOTOs, the targets were always inside the 93 power eyepiece field. I would recommend this scope to anyone that is more than just interested in astronomy. The passionate astronomers (as I hope I am considered) seem to enjoy the ease and high tech features that this scope can give them. A++ to Meade for coming out with this model! I have had the scope for one month now, and own other scopes. I bought it brand new from Edmund Scientific. I cannot tell you how easy to setup, and get the AutoStar working and I have already checked out over 100 objects I never have seen before. The optics are solid and is a great starter scope. I do want to say that the scope with AutoStar and a tripod only costs $700 new (never used) so paying over $1000 on eBay for used one is not advised, unless there are lots of extra's. Excellent scope if you get it new!
I've only used an ETX 125 with UHTC so I can't comment on others. I can say I have nothing to complain about. Slewing is always smooth. Other scopes I've used, slewing is jittery and eventually freezes. I wanted to adjust the finder scope on my 125, so I pointed it at the brightest star I could see. It turned out to be Jupiter. A disk with 4 noticable bands and 7 moons visible, but three were very faint. The 4 Galilean moons were as bright as stars themselves with my 9.7mm and a yellow filter. I saw Venus during the day and was suprised that it was a cresent and not a circle. M13 was a glob of stars, not a blur of fuzz. The Ring Nebula was ring shaped. With my 2090AT, I couldn't find the Ring Nebula at all. Every time I take it out, I see something that reminds me why I bought this scope. There are obviously better scopes out there, just not for under $1000!Vollständige Rezension lesen
