Everything everyone else has written about the OM-2S is true. It's a workhorse, it's dependable, it's easy to operate, and the results are dandy. I used mine for a 3-month backpacking and bus trip across the United States and again for a similar 10-month trip across Europe and not only did it perform wonderful through a couple thousand shots, I'm trying to remember if I ever had to change the battery during either trip...don't think so. But the selling point when I bought the camera was that it had all those features AND it was the lightest semi-professional SLR on the market. The difference between the Pentaxes and Nikons was considerable and yet it had the same satisfying professional feel, shutter snap, knob turns, etc. That made a huge difference to me.

Semi professional camera with features like spot metering on manual, interchangeable focusing screens, all metal construction etc. Looks very neat and nicely made. Only problem is that this model has a reputation for battery drain; however mine seems okay. I think it is a much under rated camera.

Excelent image quality with Olympus OM Zuiko 50mm 1.8, easy of use and no problem with battery in two month after every day of use . Lens and camera are well built , metal body , also small for everyday caring and shooting . LCD light meter in night time shooting is a big plus . All around excellent SLR camera for a money . Wide variety of excellent lenses for relatively affordable $.

I wanted to upgrade from my OM-1N to OM-2N and then I thought, "why not upgrade to OM-2S instead?" It works well, spot metering is a blessing at night, but there are a few irritating things. First of all, the dreaded and well-known battery drain. It's nearly impossible to use a camera after storing for one week if I use Alkaline cells. Has to be Silver Oxide, otherwise they are depleted. Second, if I use viewfinder illumination, it also kills the battery pretty quickly. I've heard they fixed these issues only in "T" versions of OM-4 which are obviously expensive, so I just keep a fresh pair of batteries wherever I go, just in case if OM-2S decides to die on me.

I purchased this OM-2SP as an adjunct to my Nikon film bodies. This body came with a 28mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 80-200mm zoom at a price that was too good to pass up. I love the spot metering and full manual control in addition to the full program and aperture priority settings on this Olympus model. This camera is much smaller and lighter than my Nikon F3 with comparable build quality.
