Timeless Classic
Like many, I remember this from my younger years when I had it on LP. No doubt still as funny if not funnier than ever. Let's put it this way, if you have kids, and you want to laugh out loud at some very humorous, clean and original comedy, this is sure to do it for you. I cannot say this is Mr. Cosby's best because I have not heard all of his materials. But, one thing that may be unique about Cosby's delivery is that it doesn't rely on anything that might be deemed off color or offensive. In other words, Cosby doesn't cuss. Cosby doesn't rant. Cosby doesn't complain. He tells the story in a way that everyone who has ever had a childhood can relate to. I think that covers all of us, doesn't it. I have never written a review for anything before. This one warrants a big thumbs up. Whatever ... Like many, I remember this from my younger years when I had it on LP. Bill Cosby's album To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With (1968) is a timeless slice of comedy. While the first four routines are subtle riffs about his youthful daughters, Cosby's 26-minute title piece has all of the elements- voice characterizations, imagery, and sound effects- that put me in my grandmother's top-floor bedroom with my own brother in the sixties. Cosby inimitable talent of changing characters through voice inflection and microphone manipulation- switching between himself, his brother, his father, and various sound effects- while sustaining his story, is what makes Cosby THE master-story-teller. My wife and I laughed until we cried. Many current top-teir comedians could take a lesson from Cosby finesse. In an age when comedians stack up four-letter words up like ... Bill Cosby's album To Russell, My Brother, Whom I Slept With (1968) is a timeless slice of comedy. So funny that you'll laugh until you cry!
As a child, about 12 years old, I had this album. My friends and I would play it over and over again and laugh so hard it hurt. You really get a sense that different people are speaking and not just Bill Cosby. He has the ability to make you imagine the whole scene as it takes place. It reminds me somewhat of the things my brother and I used to get into, although not to that extent. I've told my husband about it for so long that I decided that he has to hear it for himself to really appreciate how funny it really is. I highly recommend this to everyone of every age. Bill Cosby from 1986 - at his best!
This was the best buy of my life!! Been looking for Bill Cosby's "To Russell With My Brother Whom I Slept With" on CD for ever(I am 47)!!! I had the LP and lost it. It is a classic and was glad to find it! Remember listening to it as a child back in 1970 (I was 10 years old) with my brothers and twin sister, we could relate to everything he said. Listening to it now, I can still quote many lines from the bit! Love it! Brings me back to my childhood. Everyone who has a sibling should listen to it! It will bring you to tears! It's very hard to find old LP records on CD so I was ecstatic to find this seller!This was the best buy of my life!! I purchased this CD and it became one of my all-time favorite albums when my dad originally bought the album for me when I was 10 years old. My dad started me on my Cosby collection and I thank him for that. The marathon title track, in my opinion, is the funniest and greatest comedy bit ever recorded. Even though Revenge is perhaps the best album Cosby ever recorded, this one runs a close second!!!I purchased this CD and it became one of my all-time favorite albums when my dad originally bought the album for me when I was 10 years old. My dad started me on my Cosby collection and I thank him for that. The marathon title track, in my opinion, is the funniest and greatest comedy bit ever recorded. Even though Revenge is perhaps the best album Cosby ever recorded, this one runs a close second!!!
