Clint Eastwood teams up with some old friends to make SPACE COWBOYS, a rollicking motion picture that wraps action, comedy, and science fiction into one neat package. Eastwood plays Frank Corvin, a former air force pilot who was shunned from flying into space in 1958 after NASA was created. Forty years later, when a Russian satellite appears to be headed for a collision with Earth, Corvin finally gets his chance. He bribes his archrival Bob Gerson (James Cromwell) into letting his team go into space to repair the satellite, on the condition that they pass the physical. However, passing the physical isn't so easy for aging veterans Jerry O'Neil (Donald Sutherland), Tank Sullivan (James Garner), and Hawk Hawkins (Tommy Lee Jones), who, while still mentally sharp, aren't in the best of physical shape. Nonetheless, they manage to fill all the requirements. Ignoring the two cocky upstarts who have been sent along to back them up, the old-timers blast off and head straight for the satellite. But when they get there, the realization that the satellite is actually carrying six nuclear warheads changes the course of the mission, endangering the lives of the astronauts as well as the citizens of America. With exceptional special effects and a breezy tone, SPACE COWBOYS is one of Eastwood's most entertaining films to date.

Entertaining film about four ageing ex-astronauts who missed their opportunity to fly years ago because of politics. Now, all of a sudden their services are needed because of an old Soviet era satellite is falling out of orbit. It seems that the control system installed in that satellite was U.S. technology stolen by spies years ago. This technology was written and developed by one of the astronauts (Clint Eastwood), and this stuff is so antiquated that nobody else knows it, and there isn't time to train anybody else. He agrees to help, but only if all of his former team can go too. By blackmailing the head of the program all of a sudden, not just Eastwood, but, Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, and James Garner are all undergoing astronaut evaluation and training. . . again! Well, they go up and find out that the so-called communication satellite is a space-launch platform for a dozen or so nuclear weapons, and unless they can jettison it into deep space, it is going to launch it's weapons on programmed U.S. targets. They save the day with BS actions and at one point a cheap kitchen timer that is supposed to be some super hand held computer. All pretty unlikely, but entertaining. This movie's best attributes is that it is loaded up with "Has-Been" actors who are still talented, and have easily recognizable names.

Good story line and well worth purchasing for your video collection. Just sit back and enjoy it. Interesting, funny, and full of action. I normally like Clint Eastwood movies and this one was quite entertaining although not the best. This 2001 issue of the movie is in NTSC VHS format. Please note that the review is made on the movie and does not reflect on any seller. At the time of writing, the seller is completely unknown.Good story line and well worth purchasing for your video collection. Just sit back and enjoy it. Interesting, funny, and full of action. I saw this movie when it first came out, and I loved it. I thought I had a copy that I was going to loan my sister, but I couldn't find it. I bought this one on ebay for her, and I wanted to watch it before giving it to her so that I could check it before leaving feedback. Well, it is even better than I had remembered. Some of the finest actors, well written, good demonstration of Nasa. I am going to order another, this time for myself.I saw this movie when it first came out, and I loved it. Very enjoyable movie with fantastic cast including Tommy Lee Jones, James Garner & Clint Eastwood. No truly great surprises but the chemistry with this cast has a magnetic quality.
