This collection is a must have for any Marx Brothers fan. I for one grew up watching these delightful films in my grandmothers living room every chance that I got. I remember one week in which my parents took a vacation my sisters and I watched A Night At The Opera around 40 times. When my parents returned from vacation we were able to recite almost the entire movie by memory. These movies are classic, and it is fortunate that they have been saved in this format so they aren't lost forever. The comedic timing of Groucho is impeccable. He is pure genius when it comes to wit and timing. My own children love the silly antics of the bushy blond haired Harpo and his interaction with the hilarious Chico. It is hard to say which of these men is the most memorable. This type of humor and wit is almost unseen in todays movies and television shows. Even the idea of this type of timing and simple cracks is unknown to todays children. The humor can be colorful and sometimes inuendo, but never offensive. There is no swearing or purely inappropriate language. It is good clean fun which can be enjoyed by the entire family. It touches everyone on some level, whether through slapstic comedy, witicism, music, or even the sometimes over the top early hollywood acting in post-silent films. Within the first few minutes, one doesn't even mind that the films are black and white. These films will go down in history as classic comedic genius.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The Marx Brothers Collection features some of the most beloved of the Marx brother movies. It's the largest selection of Marx brothers' movies all sold in one set. The collection contains some of the Marx brothers' feature films that were never sold as a single. Why did I buy it. It is something that I know my younger brother would definately enjoy. So, I bought it for him for Christmas. My siblings and I grew up watching the Marx Brothers'. So, seeing them is a sweet nostalgia. The Marx Brothers' also have a comedy style that is clever, suprising, inovative, and fraught with their own personal skills like singing and playing various instruments. Nobody had or ever will have a style like the Marx Brothers'. They had such a combination of talent and humor. Bob Hope is the only one who comes as close to my heart as the Marx Brothers'.Vollständige Rezension lesen
If you like the Marx Brothers - and who doesn't? - then you'll need to throw away the VHS tapes and buy this collection of mature Marx Brothers' dvd's. Sure, Zeppo's not in them by now but in Day at the Races and Night at the Opera, the boys are in full madcap mayhem, driving Margaret Dumont to distraction and endearing themselves to us, their audience. You have to watch these movies more than once to get the double entendres, but the boys' irreverent humor transcends time. Watch these movies, then watch more modern comedy and you'll see who set the example for subtle slapstick. Virtually every MASH television episode pays hommage to Groucho, for example. Comedy in the early 20th century wouldn't be the same without the boys from the lower East Side. Buy the collection, then fill in with the early movies. The prints from which the dvd's aren't pristine but you'll soon forget the grain of the picture when your sides are splitting with Groucho's, Chico's and Harpo's comedy. One last thing: note the musicianship of Chico and Harpo. You'll be amazed to learn they were self-taught and you may not know that their instruments were not dubbed in these movies.Vollständige Rezension lesen
these are the last movies the brothers made and they were all getting into their sixties age wise, and Chico was in very poor health, taking that into consideration, they did a fantastic job! Lucille Ball was best friends with them and even appeared in Room Service which makes this even mo’ better! A great collection! Includes A Night At The Opera and A Day At The Races, both movies that the rock group Queen based their albums on...

What's not to like about the Marx Bros? There's never been anything quite like them in film. Can you imagine a guy with a clearly painted-on mustache, a guy pretending to be Italian, and a guy with a weird wig who never speaks in any film today? These films are the ones made by MGM (with one exception - Room Service was RKO) after their time at Paramount was finished and Zeppo had left the act to start up a very successful actors' agency. Plenty of classic bits here. Love stories and songs were added to likely please the female audiences of the time; if you don't like them, skip them (though some of them are very funny, and Harpo's harp playing should not be missed) and just enjoy the wonderful wackiness that is the Marx Brothers! Seven movies in one big set.
