I'm only part way into this game so consider that, according to reviews I have quite a bit left. This game is a different shooter, and not real easy (on normal). I don't rush through these and this is taking me a long time or so it seems though I only have time to play here and there. You get a lot of different weapons that are pretty cool, but you have to use the correct ones on the right targets so it can be complicated. You get bio-weapons where for example you can set things on fire or electrocute. You also have some typical weapons like various guns, and you can swap from the bio to normal weapons. You have to find a fair amount of things and the environment is creative in design. You have to build your capabilities through the game to proceed and have different choices along the way. You can find a fair amount of ammo but it is not that effective on some things, I end up having to figure out how to take down specific types of targets and that can take time. That is the hardest part of the game for me, you can't just shoot stuff. You might have over a half dozen weapons you can attack with, but many of them only work on certain targets. You may need to use one to slow them and another to take them down. If you cheated and read up it might be easier. You don't really die in this game, you get renewed in a chamber near the area you died in. But it sets you back some and so far has not made the game easy because of it. There are a lot of hidden things to surprise you, another reason not to run in this game. A sentry gun can take you out in no time after you walk around a corner without looking closely. Or a group of crazy people can swarm you and you are done for. So if you like a shooter that is not the typical, and is more complex in how you attack with more diverse weapons....you should have fun with this. I'm playing it on an AMD 5000+ and a GF 7950 GTOC, it is very smooth.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This game is unusual because the story line is better than the grphics or gameplay that is common in today's pc game market. The story is set in 1960, in an underwater city named rapture, you are a survivor, who was taken to the city after a plane crash on a submarine. Rapture was meant ot be a Utopia, but as soon as you get of the sub you realize something is wrong, thus sets out a great mystery/horror/conspiracy story. The gameplay is OK, but the game is almost too easy, because if you loose all your health, you are simply re spawned in one of the many envira-chambers throughout the game. This makes the game incredibly easy and mindless. The graphics in this game are OK, they are somewhat cartoonish, and the enemies look like zombies from an arcade shooter. The story is very linear, an arrow directs you almost the whole game, allowing little time to explore and take in the city of Rapture. But once again I must reiterate that the intriguing story and scenery is better than the gameplay.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I would have given this a 5-star rating (SHOULD have given it 3!!), but for 2K's lack of support in the resolution problems! It has great graphics, sound, storyline, animation, etc! It is would be a FANTASTIC game----if only I were able to finish it!!! The game keeps crashing 2 levels from the end! I went online for solutions, re-installed it 2 additional times, even reformatted my hard-drive (because of files not being deleted upon un-installation, thus causing conflicts with the new installation!) just to get this game to work! NOTHING, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH!!! I REMAIN unable to enter Olympus Heights, and this frustrates me and pisses me off to no end! Perhaps if I did not receive a busy signal everytime I called 2K Games, I would not feel this way! It looks as if I will never be able to finish the game; if anyone would be so kind as to tell me how it resolves (there are 2 endings, I know--"good" and "bad"), I would be forever in their debt!!! :o) :o)Vollständige Rezension lesen
I've been a FPShooter lover ever since the original Wolfenstein and Doom (and Duke). I've fought to keep my rig current, and invested much valuable time fragging and pwning and I continue to play all the latest games. Bioshock in my opinion, borders on a revelation, and I can't really say if it's positive or negitive. It's a game that has made me rethink FPS games, in general. At first I thought it was ok, with really nice graphics and a cool environment. The little girl was kinda cute and different, and the underwater-ness was refreshing in a way. But still I wasn't totally 'captured'. I typically like the wide open expansive games like, well like you know. The ones with wide, outdoor spaces (and that really put your sli rig to the test). At first, Bioshock made me feel a bit clausophobic/closed-in. A little stuffy like Doom 3, or even sometimes FEAR. But then I tried to uninstall it. I thought, this game is ok, but instead why not play Crysis. But for some reason I could not, I had to play just one more session. And I struggled with this for a while and then one night, I actually did uninstall it. But two days later, strangely enough, I decided to reinstall it and recover all my save games. And since then I have been playing it more and more, and you know what. I've decided I really like it. The amazing thing is, I'm not sure WHY. But somehow it has grown on me and I can't stop playing now til I finish.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This review can be seen in its entirety @ http://gnadegames.blogspot.com I had no intention of buying Bioshock. Yeah the graphics looked great and it was getting some buzz, but it had no multiplayer and Halo 3 is coming out in a month or so. Then I played the (painfully short) demo and wanted more, and when the first stellar reviews started coming in, I was sold. Bioshock is a great single player experience, probably the best FPS single player experience I have ever had. Yes, it's that good. Gameplay: 10/10 Pros: A perfect blend of RPG elements into a FPS. Extreme flexibility in the way the game is played...you can strategize and set traps, use plasmids (magic attacks), hack machines to do your dirty work, research every creature as a photographer, specialize in weapons, or just go guns blazing and focus on twitch gameplay. It is absolutely fantastic. Add in amazing enemy AI, a fantastic story, and stat building and you have an incredibly addictive and fun game. Graphics: 10/10 Gears of What? Bioshock is a gorgeous game...simply play the demo and by the time the tail of the plane crashes into the tube spraying water everywhere (see video above) you should be convinced. It uses the same Unreal engine that every graphic gem seems to use on the 360, but has so many effects, subtleties and touches that it just outshines them all. The art style is truly one of a kind and the futuristic underwater city is both futuristic, yet horrifyingly familiar and historic as well since the game is brilliantly set in 1960. Sound/Music: 10/10 The Voicework is top-notch and film quality. In fact the music, score, and voicework is so excellent that you cannot help but think Bioshock film. Like all other aspects of the game, the polish and detail is just exceptional...even the piano notes played when you cycle the start menu, capture the tone and immersion of this game. Lasting Appeal: 9/10 Pros: The single player experience is a long and investing one. The world encourages you to explore and learn more about it. The gameplay is great and it encourages more play throughs just playing around in the world. The game is never frustrating...even when you die against a tough boss, you're instantly revived at a chamber nearby and your enemies are as hurt as they were when you left them...unless they heal at a health station...this aspect makes you lose yourself in the game and literally lose hours immersed in the city of Rapture. Cons: There is no multiplayer experience and while this is understandable due to the depth of the single player experience, one can't help but wish that multiplayer was included. I imagine the multiplayer would have been reminiscent of shadowrun...or how shadowrun should've been executed. This game is so good that any end to it is a con. Average: 97.5% Tilt: +2.00% When all is said and done, this game is a work of art. Every aspect is cohesive, immersive, intriguing, and ultimately satisfying. This game is like a fantastic book that you curl up with, get immersed in, and then go to bed with nightmares about. A definitive gaming moment in the era of next gen gaming. Verdict: 99.5%Vollständige Rezension lesen
