The Fujifilm FinePix A403, which is extremely similar to the older FinePix A201 except for its use of xD memory cards rather than the A201's near-obsolete SmartMedia ones, is a simple, basic, point-and-shoot 2-megapixel camera aimed squarely at the snapshot market. Within those parameters, it succeeds in most areas. Its styling is slightly odd, with the (very small) lens high up the body rather than central, but it doesn't seem to affect the camera's operation in any way. There's a sliding on/off switch, rather than a push button, which also operates a small cover across the lens. The shutter button is quite large and comfortable, and though the other buttons are slightly less so there's nothing terrible here. The A403 is very lightweight even with two AA batteries installed - so light, in fact, that at first it may feel like a toy. This lightness makes it ideal for carrying around all day, and indeed this sort of use is just what the camera is best at. Having a fixed-focus lens with no optical zoom, it's the essence of point-and-shoot, but so long as you don't expect miracles, picture quality is perfectly adequate. The lack of autofocus has one benefit in that there's no shutter lag, though the flash is quite slow to recharge. Although there is a so-called "4M" mode, this resolution is only achieved via software interpolation and frankly I couldn't see much improvement from the "2M" mode which is the best that can be achieved in hardware alone. Since 2M allows roughly twice as many photos on a memory card (about 35-40 on a 16-meg card) I've practically never used 4M. There are also 1M and 0.3M modes for when space is very tight, but this is the extent of your quality options: there are no "fine/normal/basic" settings. There are not many other features to mention beyond the core one of actually taking photos. There is a macro mode, set via a switch on the front of the camera that is much too easy to leave on by mistake, but it's a bit of a half-hearted effort and has a very narrow focusing distance (3" to 5"); if you buy the A403 on the strength of this alone you will be disappointed. You can also take movies of up to 20 seconds' duration at 320x240 resolution. The 1.6" LCD is quite small by today's standards and gets washed out in bright light, but it generally does the job. Menus are overlaid on this screen, and are straightforward to use. You can select a so-called "Manual" mode, though the only differences from the default "Automatic" are that you can change basic white balance and exposure compensation settings, and you lose the 10-second self-timer facility. Battery life is not bad by digicam standards, though you'll want to have a couple of sets of good-quality NiMH rechargeables around. Overall, this camera is not one for the enthusiast who is looking for dozens of options and menus to play with, but if you're after a cheap, simple and (considering the lightness) surprisingly robust camera for snapshots, especially in online use, then the A403 is well worth considering.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I "shortlisted" several compact digital cameras wanting one for my grandson's 8th birthday and not wanting to pay a great deal! I did not know the finer points between Fuji, Olympus, Kodak etc but carefully studying the various descriptions helped form my decision. This particular one had an excellent and concise description and included details about the memory card and batteries without my having to email the seller. I knew it was no longer on the market but trusted the buyer's statement that it was in good working order and was absolutely delighted with my purchase. So was my grandson! I set up a competition for him and his 9 year old brother (for whom I bought an Ebay Olympus compact) 18 months ago and they produced great pictures. So much so I had to create two categories within the competition so that they could each win a first and a second prize!Vollständige Rezension lesen
This was my first camera and it was great. It took good pictures and they were easy to put on the computer. It could do with an optical zoom but when i bought it cameras with this costed loads! It does make it's way through alot of batteries though. You can only get around 20 pictures in before there dead. So taking a few pairs with you or some rechargeables will garantee you get your shot
Viewfinder(in addition to lcd screen) and fixed focus lens. Great for holiday snaps etc without fiddling about. Image quality very pleasing for such a basic camera.
