I bought this Sangean to replace a Boston Acoustic Horizon Solo. Of course the Sangean doesn't come close to Boston Acoustic in performance and sound. But then, the Boston Acoustic Solo is not available and would probably cost at least three times as much as the Sangean. So comparing the sound would not be fair. But, for it's sound quality coming from the wooden cabinet is remarkably good. Bass and treble are easily adjustable. I like the the brightness control from very minimum to very bright. Reception is only fair but that is to be expected with the use of only the internal antennae. I am certain that using an external antennae would bring in distant stations easily. I live in a metropolitan area and I am able to tune in many AM and FM stations with wonderful clarity. I also like the time to be set using FM stations broadcasting this data. NO NEED TO SET THE TIME. Also like the "built in battery" that provides backup in event of power failures. The description I have read calls this a "built in battery" but there is no provision for owner to replace this battery. Perhaps the manufacturer meant this to read "a built in capacitor." I am researching this now for clarification. I may have overlooked this in the owners manual. I have only had the unit for a few days and have not become familiar with all the features. This radio has five presets for AM and five presets for FM . Ample! The alarm clock feature is not in all Sangean table top radios but IS a feature of this unit, of course. My overall opinion of this unit is a five star rating. It is very well made, quality material, beautiful in appearance, and even includes a small remote control that has many of the radio controls. I was surprised that this little remote was so full-featured! Great full-featured alarm clock radio for the price. Vollständige Rezension lesen

PRO: Excellent build quality, easy to use, front buttons, good reception, potentially good sound, base is way more powerful than needed (adjustable). CONS: For bedroom use, by the time the panel light is dimmed down enough not to be bothersome, the time or radio station numbers cannot be easily seen on the panel. Treble adjustment is almost non existent. With zero setting on base, sound is muddy because of no treble. To get good sound, base must be set to minus levels and treble at max. If the base/treble adjustments were balanced the radio would get 4 or 5 stars.

The sound quality is excellent, but there are a couple of things that I have to ask, “What were they thinking”? First of all, the backlight is way too bright! The numbers go all the way to 7, and even 2 lights up the room. Anything less than 2 is off. Maybe if it was a blue light instead of white it might be less intrusive. And the volume dial is very annoying because it’s not the free-wheeling style. Instead, it’s “notched” with numbers. Between 3 and 4 would be perfect, but 3 is too soft and 4 is too loud when I’m listening in bed. The preset buttons are pretty small, but I could cope with that if it wasn’t for the things I mentioned. I’m thinking about returning it, except I have to pay the shipping, and also I can’t find another radio that fits my needs.

While the sound quality is good for music, (this is our bedside clock radio alarm) it has too much bass on voices such as from the news in the morning. I am unable to correct that with bass/treble controls.

The radio is easy to set up, including station pre-sets and alarms. The knobs and buttons have a solid feel and the variable lighting intensity is appreciated. Good quality wood and workmanship. Sound quality and volume is very good for a good size bedroom or dining area.
