new technology doesn't automatically translate into better sound quality. Elixirs work well on some mandolins but sound awful on others. I find that they sound better after I've played them for a good while. Too bright at first but after a month or two the brightness gets tamed. I know one guy who uses Elixirs only in winter because he doesn't have to change them for four months (that's winter in the South). The rest of the year he uses D'Addarios for shows and performances. I have very mixed experiences with Elixirs on six different mandolins, 4 pre-war and 2 post-war models. Sound better to my ears when other players would probably change them. Too much brightness for my ears and not enough "throat" that I get from D'Addario phosphor bronze. But they do add something to some instruments especially once they've been played enough. "Old" Elixirs sound better to my ears than new -- fresh out of the package. Some Weber owners claim they're the greatest for Weber but I hated the sound of Elixirs on my Weber Gallatin F model. But they sounded good on my pre-war Gibson but after they'd been played a lot and the brightness was worn off. Vollständige Rezension lesen

My first try at coated strings on my mandolin, and I like them a lot! My mandolin playing is somewhat sporadic, but I do play semi regularly with a contra dance band. These strings are excellent and I will switch to them. I've had the same set on for about six weeks and they sound as fresh as when I first put them on. This goes from changing every 2-3 weeks with uncoated strings. (Note: I've been using elixir strings on my acoustic guitars since 2012). Nothing negative comes to mind so far.

I've been using Elixirs for over a decade.on my guitars. Once they "settle in" the sound is remarkable and require far less tuning than any other string. Playability is superb.

I usually use d'addario's but I thought I would give the elixir a try. They're pretty good. nice bright sound if that's what you're looking for.
