This is an overall good knife for the money. S30V stainless steel is NOT cheap, and this one came VERY sharp right out of the box. Beautiful wooden scales, although the fitting of the metal plates that cover part of them leave a great deal to be desired. They're just not well fitted at all. If I had any word working tools, I'd try and fix this issue, but I don't so I'll just live with it. My biggest complaint is the flipper. It's cut much too low on the blade (should be parallel to the pivot point) to actually be useful, meaning that without flipping your wrist while pulling on the flipper, it's simply impossible to deploy the blade with it (only opens about 1/2 way) and it's just a bad design. The thumb knob on the blade works pretty well, but to get the blade to deploy fully and quickly, you HAVE to flip your wrist. Overall I like the knife and I do carry it occasionally. It is a very pretty knife, after all, and I do get favorable comments on it, at least until someone tries to use the flipper. Then ... not so much.Vollständige Rezension lesen

This knife came up at a great price. I had been wanting to have the upgraded Rosewood model ( scales and steel). Everything about this knife is beautiful, especially the scales. Hand filling and comfortable. Just a beautiful knife. Not too heavy yet hefty enough. Buck seems to have a habit of discontinuing their Rosewood models. Get one now, while you can, before the price goes up as a collector piece.

Great knife. Not the cheapest, but very reasonably priced. Well made, solid handling and high quality steel. Holds sharp blade well and after several days of use can still cleanly slice through cardboard. A bit on the heavy side for EDC but can easily become your go to knife for your camping or hunting trips. Highly recommended.

First impression is that of a heavy well made and aesthetically attractive knife. The knife is beefy with nothing to indicate Buck took any short cuts. It fills the hand well and is very comfortable to hold and operate. Thumb stud and and flipper at the base of the blade make opening and using the knife easy and secure in the hand. Heavy duty jimping and a robust choil also contribute to secure handling when open. Now the blade. S30V steel is a very good blade steel in my experience. Unbelievable blade retention. I havent experienced much of the blade chipping that some people complain about about. Sharpening can be a little bit of a chore.. suck it up and do it, besides unless you are doing some everyday heavy work with this knife your not going to have sharpen it that often. Overall a very good folder. One of he better ones i have had or will have i expect. Maybe a little large for EDC for some... but then again who doesn't like carrying a big knife and this knife was designed for skinning applications.Vollständige Rezension lesen

I received my Buck knife 285 on time and in perfect condition. It shaved, straight from the box. Of course, I already had the little light weight 283 and was expecting nothing less than the finest. Buck knives are a great value at any reasonable cost! I'm a life long fan. This is one of the finest examples of American ingenuity.
