This was a professional level camera that appeared in 2012 and it is still at that level today. This was a big step up from the previous model of the A900/A850 in that it had the transluscent mirror technology, enabling better focussing and providing an excellent electronic viewfinder. The camera controls are easy to use and well laid out. The tough body, which is weather sealed, means no worries about dust and moisture getting into the interior. Certainly not a lightweight camera, but it still balances well in the hand. The one I purchased also came with the vertical grip, that screws into the base of the camera and takes two additional batteries for thos long days out, or just doing a lot of vertical shots. Sony A99v better than a DSLR it's translucent mirror ADDS many features better than a Sony a99vII Mk.2
Hi, I sold my A850 to buy one of these and believe me for a dedicated Minolta fan through the decades, who migrated to Sony to keep my lens collection in use, this is a big deal. I loved the Sony full frame A850 but missed having a screen on the back and video and I loved articulated screens on my second hand Nex.... but I remmembered the old fold out screens and electronic viewfinders on my old video camcorders.... Did I really want to go back there, would an Electronic Eye Level Viewfinder ever give me the viewfinder experience I of film SLRs ? The answer was a resounding YES! And Yes with bells ON! It gives you sooooooo much more and you see the effects of any manual choices you make, you can SEE what is in focus with manual focus at the touch of a button and coloured focus peaking... ... Hi, I sold my A850 to buy one of these and believe me for a dedicated Minolta fan through the decades, who migrated to Sony to keep my lens collection in use, this is a big deal. A Welcom Upgrade
My A77 has been showing signs of wear so I decided to upgrade to the A99 and having had to adapt to the slightly more sophisticated specification I am glad that I did so. I found that the 16-50mm f2.8 SONY SSM DT is not totally compatible, i.e. it is designed for crop factor cameras, not full frame as the A99 is, and found a KONICA-MINOLTA 17-35mm F2.8 -f4 which has literally broadened my horizons.My A77 has been showing signs of wear so I decided to upgrade to the A99 and having had to adapt to the slightly more sophisticated specification I am glad that I did so. My new used a 99
It had just one speck of dust on the sensor which I was able to remove easily. It's nice to be able to use my full frame lenses on this camera rather than my a 77. The strap is a little tatty, but what do I expect for the age of the camera. All is working as it should do.

Great camera
I find the Sony A99 to be a good alternative to my Canon camera which I had previously used. The image stabilisation built into the camera is a great bonus, I can use older lenses more often without the need for a tripod. I mainly am using minolta lenses with mine, a 80-200mm f/2.8 APO HS G is the best lens I have ever had. The results are amazing. The downside is that a lot of new lenses are made for Sonys E-mount now, but there are some great A-mount still to be found that can give as good as results if not better than some of the newer E-mount ones.I find the Sony A99 to be a good alternative to my Canon camera which I had previously used.
