"Rear Window" directed by Alfred Hitchcock
I love this movie, and the special features on the DVD were very good also and were very helpful. It was also well within my budget - barely more than a single movie ticket. This mystery is the forerunner of other similar movies and is now my very favorite Hitchcock film. There is not anything about this movie that I do not like. This film is a great lesson for anyone studying filmmaking for the following reasons, among others. First, Hitchcock was a genius to whom details were important. This movie didn't need to be rated "R" because the material that would require that rating is implied. Hitchcock was a master of subtlety and the violence and sexual content as well as vulgar language was not something he needed to put in his films. Every detail of "Rear Window" is worthy of study ... I love this movie, and the special features on the DVD were very good also and were very helpful. It was also well within my budget - barely more than a single movie ticket. Excellent old Alfred Hitchcock film staring Jimmy Stewart as Jeff Jeffries, a professional photographer who is convalescing from a broken leg. He is stuck inside his Greenwich Village apartment in a wheelchair, and spends his days looking out his rear window at the goings on of his neighbors. He has an inquisitive mind and a photographer's knack for noticing small details. They are a diverse group including a dancer he nicknames "Miss Torso", a lonely woman he nicknames "Miss Lonelyheart", a songwriter, several married couples, a middle-aged sculptor, and Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr), a wholesale jewelry salesman with a bedridden wife. After Thorwald and his wife have a loud argument, Jeff notices Thorwald making several late night trips out carrying a sample case. Then a moving company ... Doyle checks on the packing crate and discovers that it was picked up by "Mrs. Thorwald", and all seems normal. After Jeff sees Thorwald cleaning a large knife and a small saw, he is convinced that something dreadful has happened. When a neighbor's small dog is found dead with it's neck broken, he figures that Thorwald may have buried something in the courtyard garden, and killed the dog when he saw it sniffing and digging in that area. Jeff lures Thorwald out of his apartment with a phone call and a note slipped under his door, so Lisa and Stella can search the flowerbed, but they find nothing. Lisa climbs into Thorwald's apartment from the fire escape where she finds Mrs. Thorwald's wedding ring. However, before she can get out, Thorwald returns and catches her. He sees the ring on her finger and notices that she is signaling Jeffries across the courtyard. Stella leaves Jeff alone and goes to post bail for Lisa. Jeff telephones Doyle, convinced now that Thorwald is guilty. Thorwald rushes into Jeff's apartment and as they struggle, Jeff sets off several flashbulbs temporarily blinding Thorwald. He is pushed out of the window by Thorwald just as the police arrive. Thorwald confesses the murder of his wife and the police arrest him. A few days later, the heat has lifted and Jeff rests peacefully in his wheelchair, now with casts on both legs. The lonely neighbor woman chats with the songwriter in his apartment, the dancer's lover returns home from the army, the couple whose dog was killed have a new dog, and the newly married couple are bickering. In the last scene of the film, Lisa reclines beside Jeff, appearing to read a book on foreign travel in order to please him, but as soon as he is asleep, she puts the book down and happily opens a fashion magazine.

Rear Window moves to the Front of the Room!
I've worked for the studios for over 10 years and I'm a big time fan of anything Alfred Hitchcock. He was an amazing director and way ahead of his time. This film is all things elegant, with Grace Kelly, Diva of her era and Jimmy Stewart, timeless icon of the film industry...put together in an Alfred Hitchcock Film you can't help but breathe in Classic! Rough neck photographer embraces the life of neighbors while imprisoned in a body cast. Bored to death, his backyard sets the for a "Who did it" play. He can't help but stumble on a murder, whilst doubt nearly ruins the likes of his romance with his beauty queen (played by Grace Kelly). Mystery, challenge and intrigue all rolled up in one. PLOT: INJURED man in a spends his days looking at his neighbors and "believes " he has witnessed a murder OR did he? classic HITCHCOCK AT HIS BEST~ in the sweltering heat of the summer and tv and Air Conditioning were not available yet the very HOT and bored reporter (JIMMY STEWART) has a broken leg and is forced to stay APARTMENT BOUND with little to do.. so he spends hours "watching" his neighbors~ being a vouyer is not something he is proud of but he quickly becomes 'addicted' to the thrill of watching~ his lovely lady friend GORGEOUS MODEL (Grace Kelly) who is madly in love with Stewart and spends her every spare moment with him helping the "injured" man recover! but he finds his "widow watching" repulsive.. until his tale of A SUDDENLY MISSING WIFE ACROSS THE WAY has her watching ... THE suspicious movements of HUSBAND Burr make us feel he KILLED her? BUT "HOW" did he get rid of her? Thelma Ritter ~ as Stewart Nurse's gets involved with Kelly to help Stewart uncover the facts in this well done thriller~ it is NOT WHAT YOU SEE THAT COUNTS "IT IS WHAT YOU DON'T SEE".. HITCHCOCK is at the top of his direction when we are glued to every step of the movie and his clever PLOT has been used in many movies since (Disturbia) but this is THE BEST~ CLEVER mystery and fun PEOPLE STUDY~ THE PLOT FLOWS. I GIVE IT A SOLID 20 OUT OF 10 FOR MYSTERY AND ROMANCE AND PEOPLE STUDY BY THE EVER GREAT MASTER OF SUSPENSE HITCHCOCK~ ALSO SEE PSYCHO~ THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY~ for more Hitchcock at his BEST~~ IF YOU FOUND THIS REVIEW HELPFUL PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE~

My 1st ebay purchase
I bought a DVD called "Rear Window" by Alfred Hitchcock. I decided to start my Christmas shopping earlier this year than I usually do. I automatically thought of ebay. Since I live an hour away from the mall and only get to go everyother week, I thought how convient than to shop from your own home. Plus, have everything at your finger tips. The mall doesn't offer everything on your shopping list but so far ebay does. I am addicted to ebay now and plan to do plenty more shopping from it, especially since my shopping experience was such a good one with the sellers I did business with. Even if I encounter a bad experience, at least I know there are all kinds of good sellers out there that you can count on.
