I had seen distorted photographs taken with fisheye lenses & thought they looked a fun way to add some creativity to my photography. At £250 for a new lens I couldn't resist & bought one from UKDigital. Once I got used to manual focussing, which was mainly trial & error, I found the images to be very sharp throughout, it's as good as any other prime lens costing a lot more money. On my Nikon D5000 the lens only operates when the aperture ring on the lens is dialled to f22, otherwise you get an error message on camera & the lens won't operate, but this doesn't affect the aperture you select on the camera, it's nothing to worry about just a bit of a quirk. I found I was shooting all sorts with the lens to see what effects I could get, some work, some don't, but it's fun & addictive too. Once I've photographed everything I'll start using it selectively!Vollständige Rezension lesen
Brilliant little lens that is very solidly built and gives much sharper images than my old Opteka fisheye converter. Reviews stated that the lens was as sharp as the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye, which I have since tested and although the Samyang isn't quite as sharp I'm very happy with it as it costs less than half as much. My only gripe is that whilst I knew focus and aperture had to be set manually for the lens I did not realise this would mean having to manually control the flash as well, this problem can be fairly easily worked around though.
This is a great low priced fisheye lens. Ok you can pay twice as much for a nikon or other brand but if you just want a fun lens for the occasional use then I recommend this. My only reservation is that I have to use it on my D300 rather than my D700 full frame. Great value.
I am not sure that the image quality is perhaps the best, when compared to a Nikkor or Canon equilavent, but then those items cost megabucks. But any small amount of CA with this lens can be removed with Lightroom or Photoshop to give a pretty good end result. If I hadn't found this 8mm at this price I would never have even bothered to explore the world of fisheye photography. Instead it has given me something of a creative boost as the world seen through this lens is like nothing else. It bends lines (not being rectilinear) so actually produces even more extraordinary curvature when used on subjects already bearing curves. There's a sweet spot at about f8 which seems to get everything in focus, although it is tricky to focus by eye at near distances (about 1dt)... so use a tape-measure, or guess.Vollständige Rezension lesen
For the price this lens is excellent value. The image quality is as good as the equivalent Nikon and it is less than half the price! The build quality is good and if you can cope with the lack of autofocus, this lens comes highly recommended. Well done Samyang.
