This is great to have if your a Mets fan that remembers the good old days of Strawberry, Gooden, Hernandez, Dykstra, Mookie, Knight and Carter. You can watch every game as it appeared to you in 1986. The best thing about watching them again is listening to the comments and fun filled facts that the commentators give you during the game. The last disk is another good one as well. The only drawback is the lack of extra interviews on the DVD. Maybe it's because I'm an avid Mets fan who knows more about that season then the average fan or maybe it's because most of the stories I know about them could never be told in front of the camera. Overall it's still a good DVD collection to have if you're a big Mets fan. LET'S GO METS!!
This is a great DVD set for the die hard Met fan. All us Met fans from the 80's remember that Amazin year, but do we remember all of them play by play. Awesome! Not only you get all seven games of the World Series, but you even get the seventh game of the NLCS vs. the Astros and you get the bonus of the interviews with the players from the "86" Mets team along with an exclusive interiew with Billy Buckner (the man who made it possible). The reason I gave it a "Good" is cause we are all spoiled with the crisp picture quality we get today on TV. So don't expect that same quality we get today, as a matter a fact it's the same as back in the day just not to todays standard!
Though I do not have all the Collectors editions of the World Series, I imagine there is not much difference betix them. The meat of it is the TV broadcast of every game in its entirety sans commercials or National Anthems and in this era there are no FX information on the screen, which we forces you to pay attention. Also, in this era, TV would show the catchers signals which tells you weather a pitcher is hitting his spots or not and bringing the viewer deeper into the strategy. What separates these series is the bonus material and though the 16 inning affair with the Astros, every pitch for 5 plus hours, was indeed interesting, it still wasn't close to the Game 5 of the ALCS between the Sox and Angels which Henderson revives the SOX from death but the Angels tie it up in the bottom of the ninth for a back and forth extra inning affair. So, because of that ommision, I give it a Good rating instead of Excellent. Ahh, to recall a time when all players wore low top spikes except the injured Buckner. And all those Stars...Good God Yawl! Hernandez, Carter, Boggs, Buckner, Rice, Clemons, Gooden, Strawberry, the rookie Dykstra...But this collection doesn't answer the burning question, "Why was Buckner playing at that point in the game?" From the first pitch of game 1 you see that he is crippled and bandaged like a revolutionary soldier. Being a Phillies fan, I can be objective and say that Games 1 thru 4 are a snore but six and seven? SHEW! They are a microcosm of Shea Stadium and Mets fans who were loud, smart and funny.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Excellent World Series with excitement all around! With it going all 7 games there is plenty of baseball to be played and the extras have many interviews with players including Bill Buckner and Mookie Wilson regarding the infamous missed ball down the first base line. This was very well packaged and really helps to relive one of the greatest World Series's of the 1980's!

To say that the release of this dvd collection was long overdue would be an understatement. The 1986 world series was one of the best ever--especially the last 2 games. Re-live the roller-coaster of emotions as both the red sox and mets provided not only their fans, but ALL baseball fans with many thrills in this 7 game classic. It brought back many fond memories of my youth watching these games again, not to mention the joy of finally being able to replace my vhs tapes of games 6 & 7, which by this point are on the wane as far as picture quality.(Many of you out there know what I'm talking about!) All games are in their entirety and the bonus dvd, is packed with great highlights of the mets-astros nlcs..such as Lenny Dykstra's walk-off hr in game 3 & also Dave Henderson's hr against the angels in game 5 of the alcs when the sox were one strike away from elimination. The best dvd of this magnificent collection (in my humble opinion) is the 16 inning marathon between the mets and astros that took place in the astrodome(game 6)..a game that that started less than 24 hours after the conclusion of their 12 inning 5th game at shea stadium, and lasted roughly 5 hours. Highly recommended collection, feels like you're watching it again for the first time!Vollständige Rezension lesen
