Take with a grain of salt.
I first got curious about this book after taking a typology test. After discovering my typology I wanted to learn more so I decided to buy this book. It certainly is a good read and I would recommend it to anyone. The language is simple and very easy to read. Keirsey gives an in depth history lesson on the development of categorizing personalities. While I do agree with the explanations of behavior given, I feel readers should be cautious when reading this book. Not everyone is going to fall perfectly into a type and not all behaviors can be explained by an individual's typology. At some points Keirsey becomes very specific in describing behaviors associated with types. This is where my skepticism comes in. Like the title said, this book helped me understand myself even better especially after realising that my typology was amongst the rarest (explaining why I have never met anyone remotely similar to myself). Anyone interested in personality should give this book a read but keep in mind, people will not fall perfectly into the categories identified by Keirsey. Read it but take it with a grain of salt.

Please Understand Me II by David Keirsey provides deeply insightful analysis about human personalities. It is based on Myers' 16 types and organizes them into four groups that are consistent with the groupings of great contributors in the field of temperament psychology as far back as Plato and Aristotle. It is great in that it shows that every type of person is ok, and is furthermore necessary in society. It paints a positive picture of how each group/type functions most effectively in society, in relationships, and individually. But it also shows the balance of strengths and weaknesses in each type of character. He wonderfully organizes truths of human nature that I have always observed and often been frustrated by, but have never understood with any coherent organization. And he shows ... And it is simply based on the 4 functions of how people take in and process information: Sensing/Intuition and Thinking/Feeling. Keirsey is able to pack the entirety of the organization of temperaments into a very precise chart using high-level language; this includes the roles, thoughts, values, interests, etc. of each group. He is then is able to expand and describe with theory, examples, illustrations, charts and references in great depth that can simplify to reach all types of people. Included is a great test for figuring out your own personality type. There are charts that describe four different types of IQ's: Strategy, Diplomacy, Tactics, and Logistics; each one the natural strength of one of the groups. And his personality matrix chart is able to summarize the entire theory on a single page. With the understanding that can be gained from this book one can start to really appreciate others strengths and points of view. It can open the door to good communication and understanding. This knowledge can be applied to improve all types of relationships, groups, and institutions - as well as personal improvement and well being. This book is a must read.

Please Understand Me II is a factual basic of understanding HOW you tic! But,You must be honest with yourself when answering the questions on the test! There are no right or wrong answers, just tells you; WHO! you are. It is a very eye opening experience. I for one felt good about myself, when learning, why I do things the way I do! There are many personalities in this world, and they all have their way of contributing to the world. Find out which one you are? It is one of the most worthwhile journeys you will travel! It will be a big part of how you decide what direction you go for happiness for the rest of your life! It is also fun to give to friends, to find out who they are! It is a Win-Win experience!
