Good product, but very short life. I expected it to last more than 3 years.
Worked well for 3 years, and the motor burned the other day. Dyson service said my guarantee is not valid, because I bought it from Ebay. They required the original proof of purchase, which the ebay seller (spares-2-go) said is not keeping. So have in mind when you purchase anything from ebay that you need to ask the manufacturer what are the conditions for the guarantee - and ask the seller the necessary documents so you can use the guarantee! Since I had guarantee to loose, I disassembled it, and found that the fan nut on the motor loosened, and caused the motor to block, and the carbon brushes burned as a result. I’m pretty disappointed by the build quality, given the price tag. I was a fan up till now, but I’ll pick more carefully the next time I buy a vacuum cleaner. Apart from ... Apart from that, here are the things I don’t like about the DC23 1. The air exhaust is on the side, and bows all floor dust around when you clean. All the dust becomes airborne when you clean. You must be very careful what direction it blows when you clean. It would have been much better if it blows up. I cannot believe that there are vacuum cleaners with such a fundamental flaw! 2. It is not balanced well, and is not easy to move around by just pulling the hose. Often the front part (where the hose is attached) will lift, but not move forward. A much better solution is if all wheels were rotating (like the front wheel). This way you can easy move it sideways if you like. 3. It is very noisy. We use a replacement Samsung now, and it is much quieter. I can even clean now, while my kids sleep in the next room. Not so with the Dyson. And here are the things I like: 1. The cyclones are really doing their job well. They separate so much dust from the air, that the pre-motor filter is virtually clean for months. The filter does get a bit dusty around the 6th month, but you wash it with cold water, leave it to dry and you are good to go. 2. I bought the dust brush, and it is very easy to clean all the dust from all possible places in the house. Ceiling lights dust, keyboards, all kind of furniture ornaments, dusting books (especially the ones with cloth cover), you name it. My next vacuum cleaner will be a central vacuum cleaner. They are much more powerful, more hygienic (expel all air outside the house, hence no worrying if they filter the air well), more quieter (since they are not in the house - but in the garage or basement), and you don't have to carry around a heavy vacuum cleaner - you just carry the hose, and attach it to the room's vacuum socket.

Best pet vacuum ever!
I LOVE THIS VACUUM CLEANER! This is probably the best purchase I made all year. The dog hair is gone and gets pulled up out of the carpet and upholstery. I would recommend this vacuum to anyone with a pet. I've been through many vacuums to find the one that would work in my house and this is perfect.

Superb item. Excellent design, very compact, but exceptionally powerful for it's size. Picks up the hair from our two Corgis (and there is a lot of it!) easily and very efficiciently. easy to empty, the hose wraps around the cleaner and clips securely to the side. The tools are top class in that the brush heads whizz around at a great rate of knots and bring the pile up on the carpet as well as picking up the hair etc. the upholstery tools are great on the stairs. we thought our carpets were cleaned as we had vaccuumed them just before it was delivered. Could not believe it when we filled the collection container on just the living room and dining room! Like the cpmpact as opposed to the upright for storage.Superb item. Dyson DC23 Animal Excellent Buy
The reason I opted for the Dyson DC23 is because my past experience with Dyson & the length of guarantee plus as it does what it says on the tin. It folds away very small & tidy. It has no problem with dog hair's which is a big plus for me. I had a Dyson upright which was great but we changed the floors for hard wood & found it to be clumsy plus it was getting old & needed new bits so opted for a new cylinder. Went for a cheap cylinder hoover which was a big mistake. This hoover has a 5 year guarantee which is excellent as not every manufacture will gives you this length of guarantee so we decided to go back to Dyson as our past experience where we have had contact with Dyson after sales service in the past has been excellent. Dyson may be a bit pricey but you do get good quality & it ... Another wonderful Dyson!
I'm a fan of Dyson Cylinder vacuums. I've now had 3 Animal models. This one is by far the best out of the three; great tools included which are now on board the vacuum, excellent suction, looks great too. Easy to empty canister. Only downside is that it's heavy, but it's still a great machine!
