Product Information

Writer/director Joby Harold's debut feature, AWAKE, is an unsettling thriller that highlights a deeply troubling medical problem. "Anesthetic awareness" is a rare but dangerously prevalent condition that affects nearly 30,000 individuals a year, in which patients who have been put under anesthesia before surgery remain paralyzed while still being aware of their present situation. AWAKE tells the story of Clayton Beresford Jr. (Hayden Christensen), a successful young businessman who lives under the roof of his overbearing mother, Lilith (Lena Olin). Afraid to expose his engagement to Lilith's beautiful assistant, Sam Lockwood (Jessica Alba), Clayton decides to do so when he realizes that, thanks to a rare heart condition, he might not live much longer. His best friend and personal surgeon, Jack Harper (Terrence Howard), supports his decision to take the plunge, and also advises him to get a much-needed heart transplant as soon as a donor is found. After he marries Sam, a donor arrives, but when Clayton is put under to receive the complicated surgery, he is shocked to discover that he's still cognizant of everything that is happening to him. As he fights through the pain to hear the doctors' voices, the more he learns about his best friend and his new wife, adding further trauma to an already horrendous situation. Featuring standout performances from the film's principal cast (Christensen, Alba, Howard), as well as its supporting players (Olin, Fisher Stevens, Christopher McDonald), AWAKE is a tense journey through the mind of an innocent man who's on the verge of losing his lease on life.

    Jessica Alba is Highly Watchable

    This movie is a good thriller, well conceived and filmed, and very watchable. It eschews the current popular camera techniques that degrade the enjoyability of so many films and TV shows recently (extremely tight and unrelenting closeups, "nervous" camera--the ADHD camera--and "zip" pans). The principal actors are experienced and well known (Lena Olin, Fisher Stevens, Chris McDonald, and of course, Alba). You will likely enjoy this movie, which does not lead where you initially expect. The ending is a little weak, but by then one has enjoyed the film enough to forgive it.

    Awake

    The twenty-two year old Clay Beresford is a genius of finance secretly in love of his mother's secretary Sam Lockwood. Clay has a complex, expecting recognition from his mother Lilith Beresford that he is as capable as his father was, and he needs heart transplantation. When Clay finds a donor compatible with his rare blood, he requests his friend Dr. Jack Harper operate him under the protest of his mother that wants the famous Dr. Jonathan Neyer responsible for the procedure. On the eve of his heart surgery, Clay marries Sam and during the surgery, he experiences an "anesthetic awareness" that leaves his conscious but paralyzed.     Raises Anesthetic Awareness To A New Level

    This is an engaging thriller that keeps you guessing. Jessica Alba (Sin City) and Hayden Christensen (Star Wars/Jumper) star in this 84 minute film. The story sets you up to really care for this guy even though he is rich. This movie is very thought provoking and makes you suspicious trusting the medical profession. The stellar cast and great dialogue between the characters makes this film so believable. I'll give this a 4/5 for being so creepy.     interesting

    LOVE that I could buy it when the movie was so new on the market.LOVE that I have the option of purchasing from a normal run of the mill person like me rather than buying from some giant corporation - this helps minimize costs in many purchases, too. Movie was over rated as most of them are but it was nice to be able to buy it - ebay seems to have most anything that a person may be looking for. Movie was a good fantasy movie which opens up as such at the end whereas the beginning leads you to believe it is based on true factual events. So.... Movie was okay. Movie also had a lot of the Hollywood twists, drama and "hollywood" commonalities to it. Not worth watching twice.

    Hidden gem,,,Excellent movie, well worth

    Superb,,, a hidden gem. Captivating story with surprising twist at the end. I highly recommend this movie. Don’t let any negative review related to minor technical medical details prevent you from watching this. This is not a medical documentary. This is an excellent movie.
