This is a fairly comprehensive guide to John Moses Browning's Classic Masterpiece. Full of great text and accompanying photographs. It could use some color as photos are in black and white but if you are a throwback to some of the great old volumes on firearms of the past, you will love this look. A little of what is written seems high headed as the high end pistols are praised a little more consistently than 1911's of the working class variety. But, all things considered it is a complete guide full of useful information. It would make a great table top book, range bag compliment and definitely a nice, tidy addition to almost anyone's library on classic firearm designs.
When it comes to guns, Bob Campbell has forgotten more than most gun writers have ever learned, on the other hand, when writing, Bob can't tell you any of what he knows in any sort of coherent and understandable way. With a good editor and good proof reader this is not a major problem, and fortunately that is the case here. Good editing and good proof reading makes the book understandable, readable, and useful. The down side? Well, there are the inevitable mistakes, screw ups and "what the...?" moments through out the book that the editor and proof reader missed. Fortunately, they care fairly limited, and generally spot-able, by most knowledgeable gun people, and not serious if you happen to miss them, so the book is quite useful and informative. Like any Robert Campbell book, I recommend this one, but as always, be on the look out for the inevitable blunder, incoherence, or "what the...?" moment. You will learn a lot from Bob, and that far out weights the minor problems you will run across in his books/articles. Vollständige Rezension lesen
