This is a great pedal for those ZZTOP, AC/DC type Marshall sounds. I have a nice Peavey Delta Blues amp, but was looking for a way to get a Marshall tone for a few hundred dollars. This pedal does that. The thing that impressed me the most is the touch sensitivity. Picking dynamics really shine with this pedal. The pedal does require a bit of playing around with to get it to sound right. what I found is I needed to use this pedal with the dirty channel of my Delta Blues, but have that channel set pretty clean. The Clean channel of my amp was a bit too bright and harsh sounding when using this pedal. I would defiantly recommend this pedal. I am sure a really Marshall 18W combo would sound better, but for $170 this pedal is a close second.
My model is an MKII. I play EL 84 amps and teles and strats, modern and classic country and classic rock. I have pretty good stage experience with maybe 20 different dirt pedals. I mostly use light to medium gain overdrive into a clean amp but I found that I was not quite getting there for ZZ Top, Zep and the occasional foray into 80s hair metal. Hey, a guy's gotta make a livin'. I really like this pedal. Like, really. When pushed with overdrive it is fat, full, very musical and still quite articulate. Complex chords don't get lost in mush but it drives like a mo. It is designed to be a Marshall in a box. It sure gets my rig into that territory. This pedal and a Barber 1/2 Gainer could get me through any gig.
My primary goal in shopping for an overdrive was transparency. I was looking for a pedal that took the original tone of my amp and simply added gain and boosted the signal a bit, but the key was that it not change the overall tone. I heard several on line demos of the DLS and thought it sounded really nice. In fact it is a really solid overdrive pedal, but it isn't transparent. It definitely shifts the tonality of the original signal to something completetly different. Not "bad", just a different EQ structure. It seemed to thin out a bit, adding a great amount of high end to the original signal while providing the increased gain that I was looking for. I tried it for a short while and used it on a couple gigs, but in the final analysis, it was not my flavor. So, for that reason only, I turned it around and sold it and continued shopping. The pedal worked flawlessly, and had its own character, but didn't suit my taste.Vollständige Rezension lesen
A little darker then a JCM 900, But delivers a good Marshall like tone through an original issue Blues Deluxe at lower volume settings. Allows me to play smaller venues without having to haul a Marshall head and 2x12 cab that needs to be turned up loud to sound good
