Road to Hong Kong (1962) differs from the first six "Road" movies in several ways. It stars Hope and Crosby, but Lamour has been supplanted by Joan Collins and reduced to a minor supporting role. It is the only one of the seven films not produced by Paramount, and it was filmed in England, not Hollywood. The boys are also getting a bit old (59 years old when the film was released) to be called boys, though they recreate the old magic in their exchanges together. There are several cameos, including Peter Sellers as a wacky Indian doctor trying to help Bob get his memory back after suffering amnesia and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin as Bing's and Bob's rivals on an alien planet. As the last comment suggests, the plot is very strange, centering around Bob memorizing the secret formula for rocket fuel which a spy accidentally tells him. Dottie, in her brief appearance, helps the boys temporarily escape the spies and thugs pursuing them. The picture's not a complete bust. If you've seen the first six "Road" movies, you might as well see the final installment. (Actually, an eighth "Road" picture, Road to the Fountain of Youth, which would have reunited Bing, Bob, and Dottie, was in the works in 1977, but Crosby died that year.) If you haven't seen the other "Road" movies, skip Hong Kong and try Singapore, Morocco, or Rio. You'll undoubtedly enjoy those more.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This completes my Bob Hope road movie collection. I didn't realize that it was a black and white movie but it is still good. I remember watching these movies on tv every Saturday and Sunday afternoon when I was a child.

This movie does have some of the same elements as the previous "Road" movies; a beautiful woman that gets them into trouble and bad guys that they have to figure out how to get away from but land into more trouble. This movie, however, has more "corn" to it than the others because it was made during the time we were in the race to get into space and the studio is trying to capitalize on that. If you don't like special effects that can't measure up to today's special effects then you will be very disappointed; but, for laugh value it hits the mark.
Have only to receive one more road for the seven movie collection for my extended library
