Since we do not own a television, we spend lots of time listening to audios. This series has provided me and my family with hours and hours of entertainment, opening our imaginations like no other audios have. If you listen hard enough, you actually feel as if you are in the battles w/Prince Caspian and the others. You can feel the breath and main of Aslan, or see what the marshwiggles actually look like as they are described. You laugh and cry and dance and run with "the children" all through out the series. It seems, that even after weeks of having the series and listening almost every night, I still hear a part that I did not hear before. However, my favorite aspect of the whole series is being able to talk to my children about the way Aslan chastises, teaches or encourages "the children" and relate that to God's ways of dealing with us or even me with them. I can HONESTLY say, "This is the best audio series that I have ever listened to." When we wear these cd's out (and I'm sure we will), I will replace them!!!Vollständige Rezension lesen
This is no typical audio book series. This is a radio theater style production, only without any of the hokiness of typical radio theater. What carries the production is the excellent voicings of each of the characters, led by the superior narration of Paul Scofield. These are accentuated by movie quality sound effects, including a rather frightening lion's roar. If you have read the book series, the CD's are astoundingly faithful to the books. The only places they are changed in the slightest is the conversion of some narrated elements into dialogue. Even there, however, the created conversations use many of the words of C.S. Lewis. We bought the series for our 6 year old and our 3 year old to listen to on trips. We found two unexpected results very quickly: 1. We now listen to the series not only on long trips but on trips to the grocery store or church; 2. My wife and I are just as addicted to the stories. This is a top-shelf production, with a great script, great characterizations, wonderful acting, and all of the joy and excitement and heart-rending truth that Lewis intended his readers to experience. It is well worth the price of purchase, as you will listen to it repeatedly.Vollständige Rezension lesen
The only thing that might beat this audiobook experience by Radio Theatre would be reading the actual Chronicles of Narnia yourself. This presentation totally immerses oneself in the colorful world of Narnia. The clarity of the production as well as the variety of soundscapes is satisfying. And the orchestral score is quality. What tops the whole thing off though are the talented voice actors that bring alive the characters of the book. They are absolutely great. Many performers took part because each character is voiced by someone different So while listening, no two characters sound alike. In addition, the performers who voice each character persist through all seven books so eventually, you can tell who's speaking without the narrator saying who it is. The whole production lasts around 23 hours so plane rides and car trips are covered. Overall, this is a great audiobook that is well worth owning because of the timeless entertainment it will bring. Narnia is a cornerstone in fantastical literature and a must have for anyone who enjoys adventure and excitement. Upon hearing this audiobook I would believe that any of the other Radio Theatre productions are excellent as well. If you are looking for the best Chronicles of Narnia audiobook, this one is the best.Vollständige Rezension lesen
Narnia tales are classics all children should read or have read to them. Not everyone will like reading such long novels aloud. And not all of us have time. My two children, 8 & 11, ate these CD's up! They listen to them at bedtime, often falling asleep and having to finish another time. My 11 year old, who had already read most of the series on her own, listened to each CD and is now on her way through her favorites again. My 8 year old is still plugging excitedly away. The moral values, the lessons taught are timeless. The characters come alive with the professional actor's voices. The best money I've ever spent on children's entertainment.
The Narnia books are loved by millions and this series of "radio theatre" brings them alive like no other. Not simply a narration, this is a cast of voices and sound effects, dramatically produced and laid out in a most engaging manner. Focus on the Family radio dramas are faithful to the text and superbly done, I would recommend this series to anyone interested in Narnia for the first time or even the old curmudgeons who have read it a hundred times!
