Product Information

The original Spec Ops for PC was one of the first realistic military tactical combat simulators to be released. After its limited success it spawned many rehashes, pseudo-sequels, and mission packs all bearing the same name. The Playstation's version of the rehash is Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol. Up to two players can simultaneously play through the series of missions the game has to offer. If there's only one player the second ranger is controlled by the CPU. The single player can switch between both rangers at any time, letting the CPU control the other ranger. Players have access to a team of five rangers, from which they can select two for any mission. The rangers each belong to one of five specialties: machine gunner, grenadier, rifleman, close quarters specialist, and sniper. Each ranger has a default loadout appropriate to his specialization; the sniper carries a scoped sniper rifle while the grenadier has a rifle with a grenade launcher attachment. The default loadouts can be changed before missions, so players can load and unload equipment more fitting their playing style up to the ranger's maximum encumbrance. Players have access to a variety of weaponry, from firearms and grenades to claymores and satchel charges. During missions players are guided to their mission targets by a small radar screen. Whenever a bad guy shoots at the player's ranger a red dot corresponding to the enemy's location appears for a second. Players can then turn their rangers and deal with the offending scum. Sometimes when bad guys die they drop items like ammunition and medkits to be picked up. These item pickups can also be occasionally found in the environment. There are a series of simple commands that the player can give his CPU controlled ranger buddy in single player mode. Whether or not the ranger buddy can succeed depends on his current situation, his loadout, and whether he's alive or not. Rangers have a health bar that starts out at full health, and gets drained progressively as the ranger takes damage. Using a medkit during levels can cure the ranger up to full health instantaneously. If a ranger's bar is totally depleted before he can use a medkit he's killed.

Spec Ops Review
Game came in quick and was in descent condition. The gameplay is a lot like your typical fps but a little different. For starters you choose any ranger of your choice and each are pro at a different things whether it machines guns or sniper.The mission so far are at moderate difficult,but the enemies easily spot you and can dealt a good amount of damage. The controls are kind of weird, but are easy to get used whether you have a dualshock or non dualshock controller. Overall I enjoy this game and glad of the condition it came in.Game came in quick and was in descent condition. The gameplay is a lot like your typical fps but a little different. 6.0/10 for presentation.Good weapons and a faithful devotion to realism show that the developers at least tried... Some. 4.0/10 for Graphics. Big open fields substitute for jungles in Vietnam. The game is a combination of badly textured polygons and gross sprites. 3.0/10 for Sound. Gung-Ho to Short Fuze, can you hear me, over? Roger that? Uh, chief, we're going to need a better sound system here. 2.0/10 for Gameplay. You're not the problem. It's the enemy, with uncanny accuracy and unlimited resources, that makes this game impossible. 4.0/10 for Lasting Appeal. Well, it surely will take a long time to get through it. This game will keep you on edge! Dont expect to rush through this game and pick up an easy win, there are enemies where you dont expect them, and you wont always be able to see them. Be aware of crossfire and sneak ambush attacks. The graphics are good for a game thats not ultra-modern. As the player you have a wide variety of weapons to use, but some can be tricky to master, such as the explosive mine - be sure to get far away before setting it off or it will wipe out your character. This game could be played by any level of player, but it would be best for medium to high level players. Plus, if your not a "military game" fan you wont like this one, there is alot of missions and some "blood", so if your not into "battle and combat" then its not for you. On the other hand, if you like ... This game will keep you on edge! Automatic weapons, explosives, traps, and team cooperation makes this military game a true-to-action experience. Set the brightness on your TV a little higher and you will be able to see the bad guys hiding alot easier, as some of the game play occurs in darker locations/times. Note to parents, if your buying this for your child/teen, you might want to consider the violence level, but its NOT too extreme and it simulates real military combat, showing how soldiers fight in reality rather than some fictional hero killing demons. Its a GOOD game for those who like military themes, and the action can be intense.

Memories of Spec Ops.
This was a game I played many years ago. I enjoyed it a lot so I wanted to get it again for my kids to enjoy. It is funny how graphics have changed, but I can still play this game a lot better than the new systems with a lot more controls.
