I first heard of The Cult in 1985 with "She Sells Sanctuary (Long Version)" 12" single in May that year, it got to No.15, one of their better chart placings - only because rock has never been very popular to the majority, to them '85 was mostly Madonna, etc. and Live Aid, I was more into The Cult, Siouxsie, J&MC and Midge Ure. From then on I followed The Cult buying their last album on CD in March last year, one of only two new albums I bought in 2016, the other being Bowie's "Black Star". I've only bought about twenty albums this century, used to buy up to that in one year in the 70s. This DVD goes up to 1994 which is better than the video tape it replaced, that finished on the 1993 re-do of "Sanctuary", the main content finished on "Heart Of Soul" from 1991, "Sanctuary '93" was added ... Well from my ebay name "astbury-duffy" you rock fans in the know will have worked out I am a huge Cult fan, Ian Astbury being the Cult's enigmatic lead singer, and Billy Duffy their sublime lead guitarist. This DVD is an anthology, a history of their work from the early days to the more recent tracks. This DVD is totally awesome, I have to admit to owning several copies of the DVD and the CD version. The DVD shows the bands transition from foppish/dandy/punk rockers to the real deal, full on thundering rock Gods. During the 80's no other UK rock band filled American arena's like The Cult. This DVD offers all their greatest tracks back to back or with introductions and commentary from the great men themselves, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy. The classic tracks include "Love Removal Machine" ... This DVD offers all their greatest tracks back to back or with introductions and commentary from the great men themselves, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy. The classic tracks include "Love Removal Machine" which they close their live performances with a blistering version of, "Lil Devil" that caused outrage throughout America when filming the video tearing up a small town with the help of local Hells Angels, "Edie" a homage to one of Andy Warhols beautiful models that Astbury got close to while hanging with that crowd in New York, but who sadly died of a drugs overdose, a fantastic unforgettable live version of "Sun King" showing Astbury at his drug and alcohol fueled best (shock horror drugs and alcohol connected to rock musicians!). A brilliant version of my personal favorite " Wild Hearted Son!, and many many more. Rock fans check this DVD out, you will be amazed and if not a Cult fan now you will be converted, stick it on, wind it up,and watch the legends that are The Cult, this DVD will blow you away. astbury-duffy
