SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS..... is a Romantic Drama, that crosses genres like a ballet dancer crosses the dance floor, with grace, and power. This is a Wartime drama, that will capture you, surely and solidly. This is also a Courtroom drama, and is is a drama of the hellish power of intolerance. Scott Hicks is the Director. The Music Score is, or perhaps is, the most powerful, most Beautiful score of the last 40 years. You WILL be riveted. Dr. H. E. Review of movie, "Snow Falling on Cedars"
This happens to be my favorite book, and thankfully, the movie follows the book very well. (That does not happen very often.) That is the reason I LOVE this movie..because I loved the book and the movie is TRUE to the book. The acting of Hatsue and Ismael was superb. Such young innocence and caring about each other when Ismael would remember his past relationship with Hatsue growing up. Very believable characters in a heart-rendering drama of war-torn love. We watch Ishmael as he struggles to do the "right thing"..still enamored by Hatsue's loveliness. Also, this is a drama about suspicion and prejudice that was a part of America's history at that time after WWII and remembering Pearl Harbor. Great setting where the movie was made. Snow Falling on Cedars (2000, DVD)
We enjoyed it very much the movie kept our attention all the way through. I is also a good look back in time to the way things use to be. I found the information in special features very informative especially the interview with the writer and the section on directors notes. the section on one of the relocation camps is excellent. It is well worth watching again

history of americans mistreated I bought this because of the part where the main charactor was honored by the bowing in his presence because of his assumed good character
