The Warriors - ultimate director's cut
This is a classic for some of us. I've been looking for this hard to find movie for awhile now and I was glad I thought to look on ebay. The director's cut is especially great because I got background on the film and some of the inspirations and an understanding of the making of it as well as the phenomenon that came from it. Some of the actors got their start in this movie or it was a catalyst in their career. It's great to see their interviews looking back 27 years. I've seen several in other roles since. Although this is an older, low budet movie, this movie has stuck with me over the years. The only disappointing part is that the effects that the directors put in changing from scene to scene is different from the screen version I saw and make it more comic-like,as was apparently ... The Warriors - A classic masterpiece
For a movie that old (1979), it sure is a masterpiece! The main plot, even tough it's pretty basic, is quite original and contains enough twists to keep anyone wondering where all this is going to lead. The actors are OK, but actually I don't see how they could have been better, because this is an action oriented movie after all! The best part is the originality of the diffent gang's costumes. Sure, most of them look kind of "out of this world", but that's what makes them so cool. The only flaw was the sound quality. The movie sure sounds like it was made a while ago (which seems inevitable!). But all the rest more than makes up for that. For those who played the game, you'll feel right at home from the very beginning of the movie since most of the dialog from the game was actually ... That's a pretty good thing and I must say I was amazed to see how the game's second half was exactly like the movie. It sure was interesting to see the real actors and everything. Finally, I must say I loved that movie a lot, but I also admit I wouldn't have watched it had I not played the game before (even if I think it can still be enjoyed by people who haven't played it!)! But I actually liked it so much that I think it'd be a neat idea to make a "prequel" that covers the first half of the game, explaining how The Warriors got together.

Saw it again, no regrets
I saw this film around 1979 and never forgot it....lately, getting the opportunity for the director's cut, I jumped on it....no regrets. I not only enjoyed the film again but the extras that came with it (interviews, etc.) were really interesting to me.

I've always been a HUGE fan of the film THE WARRIORS! Ever since seeing it at my local drive-in back in the day of the films original release-1979.I had heard that Walter Hill had re-worked the film,THE WARRIORS,the way HE originally intended for the film to be shown.Couldn't wait to see what was left out of the original version of the AMAZING film classic! I found the directors cut on DVD sometime back at a local flea market.Paid very little for it.Three or four dollars i believe.Couldn't wait to watch it when i got home! I loved the original theatrical release of THE WARRIORS! But,seeing this directors cut,i had wished Walter Hill had left the film the way it was originally shown in theatres. The directors cut is too cartoony! Almost like a comic book,each ... I've always been a HUGE fan of the film THE WARRIORS! He's been around for years,and knows what he's doing.But,Mr.Hill,you must know how much of a cult following your film,THE WARRIORS has and how beloved this film is to its fans.ANY film as well made as this one,should have been left ALONE! If you want to buy this film,buy the original theatrical version of this film.If you're curious about the directors cut,rent it first!

Rather excellent movie, this one should be in anybodies collection.
When Vcr's were front loading back in the late 70's this was one of the first tapes I ever bought. There was just something about this movie. Perhaps it was growing up in an area with gangs as a kid, or perhaps it was the idea of testing yourself against the best of the other gangs. Perhaps its the "brotherhood" shared against the odds and danger. Or then again, all of the action through-out the movie certainly doesnt hurt any !! That and the rather excellent sound track through the movie. And of course, this has what my original tape never did. Alot of insight with the actors and directors. There is quite a few minutes of all of them talking about making the movie and many different things that played into it, that its taken me 26 years to learn. Whats the movie about ?? In short, one of the biggest gangs in New York issues an invitation to all of the gangs to come to a meeting. Nine members from each group and no weapons. They get to the meeting, and before the big gang leader (Cirrus) can lay his plan out, he is shot and killed. In the confusion that results as 100's of gang members try to escape and the police decend into the park where the meeting is held; a gang member accuses a member of the Warriors of shooting Cirrus. The rest of the movie is about the Warriors trying to get back to Coney Island (their turf) alive while all the other gangs in New York are looking to kill them. The end of the movie culminates with a clash between the Warriors and the gang that wrongly accused them at the beggining of the movie. Definately not for kids, and pretty strong for teenagers. Unless of course mom and dad are going to watch it with them and comment. Or perhaps preview this movie before letting the kids watch would be my suggestion. Many, many adult themes are in this one. For those of you that read, the book covers several things that the movie doesnt, such as the whole amusement area scene at the subway just before the Warriors are united. If you enjoy reading and want an additional insight into this movie, the book is NOT a waste of time. This movie has that cast of unknowns that can really draw you in, although I think one or two in the movie are stars before they were stars. Certainly one or two of them made it out of this to do other work. Hope this review helps. For the most part, this is an excellent movie, and I highly reccommend it.
