Definitely NOT Dr. Noah Drake
First, I want to say that I really liked this book. Second, I want to say that it took quite a bit of reading before I could get to that point. If you are still living in the "Dr. Noah Drake/Jessie's Girl" teenage fantasy, do not read this book. It is definitely not for you. Trust me. If you read this book, you will never look at Rick Springfield the same again. The language is harsh. It is often extremely crude. You will learn probably WAY more about his sex life than you ever truly wanted to know. But if you manage to finish the entire book, you may be surprised. You will follow his life as he struggles with depression. You will learn about his wonderful wife, Barbara, who is the TRUE HERO in this story. You will see his love for his two sons, animals, and a beautiful little ... First, I want to say that I really liked this book. You will follow his life as he struggles with depression. You will learn about his wonderful wife, Barbara, who is the TRUE HERO in this story. You will see his love for his two sons, animals, and a beautiful little girl named Sahara. You will laugh a lot, and you will probably shed a few tears.... for him, for his wife and kids, and for the losses he experiences. And you will most definitely say "What was he thinking???" more than once. I have been a huge fan of Rick Springfield since I was a teenager in the 80's. Like most girls during that time, my wall was lined with his posters. I never missed a General Hospital once Dr. Noah Drake appeared. And I will always believe that "What Kind of Fool Am I" is one of the best songs ever written. I had a hard time getting into this book for those reasons. You don't want to believe that your perfect teenage fantasy isn't quite so perfect after all. In other words, he's human.

Rick, I loved your book! Bravo
I fell in love with the gorgeous and talented singer-songwriter-guitar player in the Jessie's Girl video many years ago and have been a fan since then. And yes I loved him on General Hospital and in all his movies and television series. I was lucky enough to meet Rick some years back and found him absolutely charming and just the kind of generous person I wanted him to be. And he smelled great too--despite the heat at the meet-and-greet in Charlotte, NC. Late, Late at Night is so honest and witty. Anyone who suffers from depression will recognize himself or herself in these pages. I learned so much I didn't know about how and why his many songs were written. He isn't perfect--but who is? Perfect people are so boring! Late, Late at Night shows that there's a lot more to Rick Springfield ... I fell in love with the gorgeous and talented singer-songwriter-guitar player in the Jessie's Girl video many years ago and have been a fan since then. And yes I loved him on General Hospital and in all his movies and television series. I was lucky enough to meet Rick some years back and found him absolutely charming and just the kind of generous person I wanted him to be. Anyone who suffers from depression will recognize himself or herself in these pages. I learned so much I didn't know about how and why his many songs were written. He isn't perfect--but who is? Perfect people are so boring! Late, Late at Night shows that there's a lot more to Rick Springfield than a pretty (still handsome beyond belief) face and an amazing ability to connect with his audience musically and spiritually. He loves deeply and struggles as we all do to become a better person with each day that passes. I'm mostly a cat person these days, but his love of dogs could almost convince me to become a dog person again. We all need the human touch. We all need unconditional love and support. After enjoying every single page of Rick's memoir, I've fallen in long-distance love with Rick even more. I'm glad he found his soulmate in Barbara. He presents her as a wonderful, wise, strong woman. I envy her relationship with Mr. Rick, and I'm well aware that it's not easy to be with a man so beautiful and talented that women (and man) are always throwing themselves at him. Thank you, Rick, for this wonderful, brave book. Bravo, Rick. Hope you'll bring your wonderful music back to Myrtle Beach soon. We need some Rick. I'm delighted to know that it's hard to kill a Springthorpe. Live long and prosper.

Thought it was great!
I was just a bit too old for the big "fan" thing once Rick Springfield hit the big time, so I didn't go into this with the teenybopper fan "rose-colored" glasses attitude. I had read enough about the man over the years to know he had a lot of "warts". I totally identify with his struggles with depression. It's also been my shadow since I was a teenager, and I can understand this sex addiction problems. I agree with another reviewer that his wife, Barbara, seems to be the ultimate hero of this story. She definitely hung on through crap than I would have. That said, this book read more to me like a great one-sided conversation with a friend than a book. I never considered myself a fan of this man before, but this book has turned me into one. A man who loves dogs this much is aces in ... Some things are better off unsaid.
In the case of Late, Late at Night by Rick Springfield, some things were better off unwritten as well. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting when I purchased this book. I think I was hoping to find insight to some of the songs that he's written. In that case, I wasn't too terribly disappointed. Unfortunaltely, it was overshadowed by his many sexual exploits--something I really didn't want or need to know. It seems that the entire time Rick was writing the book, he only had sex on the brain. While that may have appealed to me as an adolescent, I am now a grown up and as such, I keep my exploits private(as he probably should have). I have the utmost respect for Mr. Springfield as a musician and songwriter. Having suffered with depression myself, I connected with his music like ... This book ripped it out of my hands. This book could've been more; instead, it is merely the reflections of a sex addict who seems to need more counselling.
