Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre by A&E
This is the story of a young girl who finds her true love. The story is magnificent so I wont betray the plot, you MUST see it. This production by A&E is my favorite rendition of the classic novel. Samantha Morton does a wonderful job as plain Jane the governess and Ciarin Hinds is truly wonderful as Edward Rochester. In fact he is just perfect in this role. Ciarin Hinds plays the leading man or character actor (Herod) "The Nativity Story" and he is excellent in everything that he attempts. Can you tell that I am a fan. You wont be disappointed in this story. And it is a must for English Literature fans. Read it, Rent it, Buy it.This is the story of a young girl who finds her true love. One of the Best Versions
I have been on a Jane Eyre kick lately and have gone and ordered all the versions I can find on dvd. Am passionate about the book. I grew up watching this version, and it is good. I like that Hinds' Rochester is passionate, crusty, explosive and dynamic - that's how he is in the book. And Samantha Morton was born to play Jane - she is quiet but definitely has the undercurrent of intellectualism, purity and morality necessary to the character. Unlike almost every other version I've seen (2007 excepting), there is true chemistry between Jane and Rochester in this movie. Most of the other Janes get it somewhat right (although I find most of them vastly too serious and uptight), but the other Rochesters are either too bland, to mild, too handsome (Tim Dalton) or confused looking most of the ... I know most people consider the Dalton/Clarke version the definitive version, but I just can't buy Zelah Clarke as Jane. Dalton's Rochester would never fall for her - she's insipid, stuffy and has no neck. Her most common expression, I think, is that of a cow--in-the-headlights stupidity. Sorry, Clarke fans, I just don't buy her. Morton and Ruth Wilson are much better. (I have not yet seen the 1970 or the Orson Wells version so I can't compare). For overall passion, pace, belivability, mood, and characterization, my favorites are tied between this version and the Stephens/Wilson version of 2007. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both are faithful to the book and I love both dearly.

This DVD lent a different feeling to the book "Jane Eyre"
I bought this DVD "Jane Eyre" to see how much different it was from the book which I had just finished reading. I had just seen the most recent movie of "Jane Eyre" and was curious to see other "renditions" of the book. This particular movie was OK, but lacked little information as to Jane's childhood with her Aunt and her experiences at the orphanage. It also didn't have a lot of information regarding her life after she left Mr. Rochester. I did like the actress's portrayal of "Jane". I bought a different DVD at the same time of "Jane Eyre" and have yet to view it. I probably would not buy this particular DVD again. I bought it because it is a classic. Wonderfully romantic story by Charlotte Bronte, one of three Bronte sister who wrote great books. Their stories have survived the decades without loosing but gaining interest. I own several versions of Jane Eyre but want them on CD now. I will continue to collect. Found Anne Bronte's Tennant Of Wildfell Hall on e-bay and won it yesterday. I have never seen it anywhere before so it paid off to shop and nose around. It is indeed rare because it's the only one she ever published. Wish everyone would watch these stories and appreciate the writings of these three sisters considering the times they lived in.I bought it because it is a classic. Jane Eyre
This was the best movie version of the book to date and I believe I have seen them all. This Jane Eyre was not wooden at all. While reserved one could see that love was developing for the "master of the house". The actor portraying Mr. Rochester was believable in his portrayal of a wealthy man in torment over a secret. While his screaming bothered me it was perfectly believable that such a man would react that way in similar circumstances. What I didn't like was the missing scene between Jane and her dying aunt. It was an important aspect of the story that the aunt be determined to be the one with a propensity to deceit. The way the romance developed was handled delicately but in great progression. The passion shown by both the main characters was on the money. On the whole it was ... This was the best movie version of the book to date and I believe I have seen them all.
