I bought this to replace a 15+ year old machine. After test driving all the major brands, I knew I wanted a Bernina because of it's construction and stitch quality. I chose this model for it's embroidery options and price range. What I like most is the quality of the stitching, and the ease of changing presser feet and adjusting stitch options. What I like least is only being able to purchase some of the software/accessories directly from a local Bernina dealer (no online retailing), the price of software, and the cosmetic look/design of the sewing machine. Yes, I would buy this product again - I highly recommend it for both sewing and embroidery. I have not yet attempted quilting, but it's more than capable of handling that too!
I bought this Bernina Record 730 because I was starting a small sewing/clothing business. My research had revealed Berninas in general to have an excellent reputation for quality, durability, and power, and the Bernina dealer in my neighborhood told me, "Berninas like to be used every day." Thus far my Bernina has lived up to all these expectations. I have had it for about a month and a half, and use it almost daily. It has a smooth, very quiet motor, and a solid feel (made of metal). I can adjust the speed of sewing through the foot pedal, and it can go quite fast. The bobbin is easy to load and the machine is easy to thread. The mechanical levers and knobs have been easy to figure out and use to far, though there are some settings I have yet to experiment with. With the right needle, the Record sews well through several layers of thick fabric. Though it is somewhat seld-adjusting, I am still figuring out, in some cases, how to get the right thread tension with particular fabrics and stitches. Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase and expect the machine will last me for a long time and make sewing easy and fun.Vollständige Rezension lesen
I've been a dedicated user of Pfaff machines since 1980, but when they changed to drop in bobbins, I fell out of love! To my mind, a front loading bobbin produces better quality stitches, and is much easier to use. Bobbin tension is easily adjusted, and decorative stitches are much more attractive with the proper tensions. This machine sews like a dream - and I haven't even embroidered anything with it yet! I find it easy to use, and the user manual is quite comprehensive and informative (without having to dig forever!). Bottom line: I LOVE this machine!

I think that I know why this product is so expensive - right out of the box -A USED Machine worked wonderfully, the stitch quality is extraordinary - I have only made one item with it so far - but it was easier to thread than my Elna and definitely simplier than the Pfaff 2124. I am very please so far.
Lovely machine, sews like a dream. When using this machine, you can just feel the quality--fairly quiet, solid, precise.
