Product Information

#1 New York Times Bestseller Over 6 million copies sold In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people. For decades, we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is--a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mindset that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up. Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited--"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek. There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.

Reviews
The opposite of every other book. Don't try. Give up. Be wrong. Lower your standards. Stop believing in yourself. Follow the pain. Each point is profoundly true, useful, and more powerful than the usual positivity. Succinct but surprisingly deep, I read it in one night., An in-your-face guide to living with integrity and finding happiness in sometimes-painful places… This book, full of counterintuitive suggestions that often make great sense, is a pleasure to read and worthy of rereading. A good yardstick by which self-improvement books should be measured., Resilience, happiness and freedom come from knowing what to care about--and most importantly, what not to care about. This is a masterful, philosophical and practical book that will give readers the wisdom to be able to do just that., This book hits you like a much-needed slap in the face from your best friend: hilarious, vulgar, and immensely thought-provoking. Only read if you're willing to set aside all excuses and take an active role in living a f***ing better life., Mark's ability to dig deep and offer amazing, yet counter-intuitive, insight into the challenges of life makes him one of my favorite writers, and this book is his best work yet., An in-your-face guide to living with integrity and finding happiness in sometimes-painful places... This book, full of counterintuitive suggestions that often make great sense, is a pleasure to read and worthy of rereading. A good yardstick by which self-improvement books should be measured.

  • Really interesting

Very interesting book. I think the first chapter could be a deterrent for some due to the constant cursing. I figured there would be a lot of profanity, considering the title! After the first chapter, the content is very interesting and the author introduces concepts that have you thinking. I do walk away from the book and continue to think about the author's perspective, which makes the book a good book. Anything that has you thinking long after reading it, I consider to be good.

  • really honest and inspiring

This is my new favorite book! Mark Manson's perspective on living a good life is very blunt, real, and in many cases funny. I usually do not read books more than once but this one will be read over and over again as time goes on. It really gave me a lot of food for thought and i love his counter-intuitive approach on which things you really should care about in life! I would recommend this to anyone I know unless they are offended by the F bomb. LOL This is a real page flipper. I stayed up far too late because I just couldn't put it down. Great writing Mark!

  • Same concept as Buddism

If you know anything about Buddhism then you won't learn anything new in this book. The info in this book was very repetitive throughout. Basically, the message was "the more stuff you acquire the more troubles you'll have. Be happy having less." I wonder how much "stuff" the author has. But, if you've never read anything about Buddhism this book could give you a wake-up call.

  • Not what you think

The wisdom imparted by the author is timely and relevant. This is not a coddle wamby pamby feel good book. It is about understanding that life sometimes sucks and how are you going to deal with it. In spite of what you parents told you you may not be the second coming or the greatest thing since sliced bread. We all have a purpose in life and it is how we choose to utilize that purpose is what counts in finding inner happiness. As Curley Joe said in City Slickers - the secret to life is one thing. That one thing differs for all of us.

  • Mixed

Love the title, but a little overused throughout the book. This book goes into my PRIVATE library. It’s an interesting read and has some interesting facts based on the realities of today. In the end it promotes “self” without caring about anybody else. Thus the title.
