Henry Fonda overacted by destroying New York, I'd hate to think a President either party could have the power to destroy a large city since the Russians jammed the signal in the first place? It's what I call a Leftist Fantasy, but he was good in "12 Angry Men", but I really don't know if I'll ever watch this one again? All the actors were great I never knew Walter could act like that and J.R. he was good too, but stick with Dallas and Jeanie!! It's a classic but creepy and I designed bombs like that, not proud just love my country-----Doctor Gerald Baker now retired!

I was 12 years old when our family watched Fail-Safe at a Drive-In. It was scary enough. I had trouble sleeping that night, it seemed real. Just two years prior the Cuban Missile crisis was the talk of the day. My dad was in the USAF and we did not see him for four of those six days. Kids my age had to learn “Duck and Cover” underneath our school room desks. Seven years after Fail-Safe I was in the USAF and eventually was on a SAC base in Michigan. My duty was an Administrative Accountant. On alerts I would hear B-52’s and KC-135 refueling planes take off half the night. We military payroll specialists took turns going to the flight line as part of the alert handing Pilots and crew their Payroll records in sealed tubes prior to their takeoff - not knowing if the alert was real or not real. Fail-Safe showed the possibility of mild tension graduating to world devastation. Fortunately I only experienced the mild tension as the alerts were all practice. Vollständige Rezension lesen

This is a starkly simple film. As the title suggests, it is concerned with possible results if nuclear systems fail. When an unidentified aircraft triggers an alert at Strategic Defense Headquarters, a series of consequences are automatically set in motion. So rigid are the security procedures that a scenario emerges where humans can no longer control the sophisticated machinery that they have created. Whilst Sidney Lumet's version bears many similarities to the more esoteric "Dr Strangelove", the ultimate dilemma confronting the President (Henry Fonda) is totally original - as is the Presisdent's solution. Above all, the film succeeds in capturing the enormity of the nuclear decision. Despite the most sophisticated systems, humans are ultimately called on make choices of monumental importance based on old-fashioned criteria such as diplomacy and trust. When the stakes are that high, the nature of those choices is beyond comprehension.Vollständige Rezension lesen

A interesting movie on what could happen if a nuclear bomber lost communication with it command while on patrol. I would call this movie Even Steven. That is what is played out in a nuclear scenario. Worth seeing, but something most of us do not want to think about.
