K.A. Applegate is an amazing writer. The universe she created for the Animorphs (and the aliens who are associated with them) is on par with any of the great science fiction universes that inspire us to dream of space travel and distant star systems. Her writing style reaches adults and children alike. It is dark and sad, but also blunt and funny, highly imaginitive, and filled with onomotopoeia. The creatures and people are real, and you feel for them. It is not clear who are the good guys and bad guys in this series. Visser is not a bad story, but it is not Applegate's best. It is told from Visser One's point of view, and as she relates her life's work to the Yeerk Council of Thirteen, it comes off as more of a list of things she has done rather than a tale in itself. The story constantly jumps back and forth, from past to present, usually just as you are getting into a scene. Not to mention, the part of Visser Three is mostly filler and awkwardly halting, and Eva does not help much. However, overall, the story is written by K.A. Applegate, and her style shines through the messy plot. Applegate has a distinct style that is highly character-driven, and as such, all of her characters are strong and colorful. If you want a better sense of Applegate's ability to tell a strong story as well as deliver amazing characters, I'd suggest reading the Hork Bajir Chronicles, or the Andalite Chronicles.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This book is a continuation of the Animorph series from Visser One's point of view. Visser One details how she came to power, how she started the invasion of Earth, the problems she had while doing so, and the reasons for doing the things she does. I like this book not only because it's part of the Animorph series but because it tells the story from a Yeerks point of view, which is not present in the other Animorph books. I bought it because it is part of the Animorph series, and the only thing I dislike about it is that we see everything in this book from Visser Ones point of view, not her hosts. Her host Eva(Animorph Marcos mother)is basically a passive presence in this story, which I understand as she is a slave-a host body. But I do wish the story could have been written from Evas point of view.Vollständige Rezension lesen
This book was great. From start to finish I could not put this book down. I loved how this book talked about human nature and how we are all so different from one another. I loved how the author uses the yeerk as a point of view. The book is very interesting at both a story level and a themes level. This book explores themes like Death vs Slavery, Love for ones children, Hubris and what is right and wrong. I would recommend this book to anyone but I think that one must have a general understanding of the Animorphs world to fully appreciate it. It does not really explain everything that one should know. All in all great book!
I love reading these books they are fun to read 😊
