Interesting portrayal of a trumpeter by Kirk Douglas with Harry James actually playing the trumpet with his orchestra and Doris Day plays the dependable friend who sings very popular songs of the 1940s and 1950s in her perfect way. The music is very entertaining and essential to the story very loosely based on the life of Bix Beiderbecke although the ending is typical of 1950s movies! The sound quality is good for the time, it was originally released on a 10" vinyl and re-released in an extended form a couple of years later on a full 12" LP in 1956, because of its great popularity and success at the time.
