Have owned a Fuji E550 since they first came out. This camera is extremely well put together and takes great pictures. The settings and adjustments rival the "big boys" digitals as well as SLR 35mm Film Cameras. With a couple of XD cards you can take hundreds of photos with excellent quality before having to download them to your computer or printer. The only possible shortcoming is the 4x telephoto lens. Which, BTW, actually does a reasonable job anyway. On the other hand there is an inexpensive after-market lens that doubles the magnification if you need that for some reason. I could not be more pleased with this "entry level" digital camera. I have had the E550 for about seven years and have been satisfied with it. Good quality photographs and easy to use...Only now the camera is malfunctioning...So, looking for a new point and shoot camera with an optical viewfinder is almost impossible unless more complex slr type units. I find the viewfinder important since in daylight the image displays are almost invisible....I think manufacturers will get the message that consumers want an optical viewfinder. Perhaps the used unit I just purchased at ebay will replace my old standby.
I had this camera for 4 years and it took excellent pictures then it got drop and stopped working. I have several of the xd cards for this camera, and this sold item seems to be in great shape and still takes great pictures...simple point and shoot camera. For the amount spent on this replacement it was like having the old camera back. Some of our great memories, trip to Hawaii, weddings, birthdays were taken with this type of camera. Using regular batteries is a plus also.
I had an E 510 years ago and at that time wished I had bought a 550. When i was able to get this one on E bay at a steal I jumped on the deal. With 6.3 MP this camera takes very good pictures. With an f2.8 lens and x zoom it's about as good as anything you see today except that it doesn't have image stabilization. It does have a larger 1/1.7" super CCD sensor and a view- finder which helps stabilize your shots if you hold it up to your eye. This is a good old camera and I keep it in the glove compartment of my car so I will always have a camera with me.
Although a little old, this is a very good digital camera. And it has an optical viewfinder which - when the sun is shining on the digital screen viewfinder - the optical viewfinder is much, much better. However, this camera uses a xD-Picture card to store photos instead of a SD card and this digital card is no longer popular so there are few available and the ones available are somewhat expensive - around $10 or $15 for a 2GB xD-Picture card - but they do work fine. And, like most digital cameras, it is necessary to use Energizer Lithium batteries so that the batteries last for quite a few photos, whereas regular AA batteries will quit after only about 30 or 40 photos. So I'm quite satisfied with this Fujifilm E550 camera.
