Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II
Phantasy Star Online is an action-adventure-real time-RPG where you take control of a customly created character in the fantasy worlds of Pioneer II and Ragol. You can be any of three character classes: Hunter, Ranger, or Force (which is equivalent to the Mage type character class of other typical RPG games), each of which have 4 subcategories, allowing for a wide range of customization and gameplay levels. You can play with up to 4 players simultaneously, although with smaller television sets this can become quite crowded. The online portion of the game requires a monthly payment (should it still be supported), but there is no difference between the online and offline versions (save for the lack of other people). Smooth offline gameply, although I did experience some ... Smooth offline gameply, although I did experience some 'lag' while the gamecube tried to handle the 4 player experience in a room with many enemies (Not a huge problem though). Aiming can be difficult for magic users, as sometimes it may target enemies behind you, but for hunters and rangers, aiming is as simple as looking at the enemy and hitting the attack button. Along with aiming, the camera may become a little difficult to work with when playing with four players--screen size may be too small, or it doesn't allow you to see the ground in front of you, etc., etc. For single or two player gameplay, however, extensive use of the 'R' button (which repositions the camera behind your character) will be needed to keep your eye on what your character sees. The customization is not too complicated, only ranging from the initial character setup and in-game equipment swaps. There are some items that allow you to increase stat points or attack power, but there's no allocation of stat points when you level up. It's automatic, following the course of the class you have chosen for your character. The only other strategic point of the game is the Mag. It's a little helper that stores aggro from hits and eventually can be released like a Limit Break from FFVII. Also, you can feed your Mag to increase its stat points, which in turn, help your stat points. This is really the only other strategic element in the game. Other than a well-organized party (in multiplayer), this is the only thing that will help you. The action does become repetitive, however, so it's good in moderation. The weapons are interesting, each having there own special attributes. Some even have special functions, which have low accuracy but may freeze an enemy or kill it instantly (doesn't work on bosses). The quests are really only for collecting the Meseta (curency in the game) and possibly some more items while you do the quest. The story is kind of mediocre. The story is really just there to tie the different levels together. Overall, the game is mind-numbing fun while you're passing the time at a family reunion or if you don't have another good RPG to play, but really there are better games to be had. Not the best. but a good game by all means. B

Phantasy Star Online Is Awesome
Hardly a story line, Repetitive gameplay, dated graphics, and sketchy camera angles. But why can't I stop playing it?!! This game has you collecting, upgrading, and leveling up constantly. I can't stop looking for random rare items. It is alot of fun to play with two or three players on Gamecube as you share items, help out with magic, or heal your teammates. But what keeps drawing me back in the Easter hunt aspect. This game isn't for everyone. Its slow and plodding. The controls are funky. The graphics are muddy. Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II (Game Cube, 2002)
The game wasn't for me, it was for my little brother but, here's my take on the game (not my type of game, but..) The game has alot of freedom, you can do whatever you want, make your own character weather it be human or not, custom your character any way you want, give it swords or guns etc. It has everything from shops, a bank, portals, odd looking creatures, magic etc. You go on quests gather items like new weapons or stuff for magic or items that heal you, fight things like dragons. Of course you can level up by getting experience, play with a friend cause its a mult-player game (Split Screen. Nice graphics. A great game for any RPG (Role Playing Game) fan. Total freedom, customize your character any way you want pretty much & do whatever you want ... My brother loves this game, I on the other hand am not an RPG fan so to me its just an ok game that costs too much. Then again, it is a rare game, from what I've seen, this game ranges on average anywhere from $35-$165 depending on where you look & what condition the game is in, plus the original case & manual. I paid $40 including shipping for just the game, no original case/manual. I probably could of gotten one with case/manual for that price but my brother wanted it so bad & it was currently the one ending soonest. But anyways, like I said certainly a great buy for any RPG fan. I played the game a little myself because he asked me to. Including game play, graphics, range of freedom/customization etc. I'd give this game 8/10. (from a non bias point of veiw) Hope this helpes any readers thinking about buying the game or not.

Watch it
This game is a great old school classic. But be warned. If your trying to play this game split screen with a buddy be prepared to die alot. The difficulty scales way too high and most enemies kill you in one hit. It makes dark souls look tame

Phantasy Star Online Episode I was originally for the Sega Dreamcast. It was great with its online capability, but when you died in the game (offline), all your stuff that you had on you was left where you once died (very bad if you were at a boss). When the Nintendo GameCube came out, this game was recreated with Episode II as a bonus feature and you no longer had to worry about losing your items when you died. This game is outstanding, an RPG of its kind, allowing you to make your own character and customize him / her to your liking with a variety of weapons and skills. You can no longer go online, but the offline version of this game is where it counts most. The quests are brilliant, the gameplay is awesome, the story gives you a reason, and overall, the game is great. You can even play ...
