EA Games makes an offer it hopes fans of Mafioso mythology cannot refuse, in this video game translation of the award-winning 1972 Francis Ford Coppola film. Players take the role of a small-time thug, newly inducted into the Corleone family and looking to make it big. By running missions for the family in the game's rendition of 1940s New York City, players can earn the respect of the family and be promoted to positions of power and influence in the organization. The game is designed to track the player's decisions and interactions throughout the criminal career, such that NPCs will remember how they were treated in the past and react appropriately in future dealings. In order to encourage players to truly take on the role of their own Corleone henchman, EA Games' The Godfather offers a "MobFace" custom character creator which allows for adjustment of physique, facial features, and attire. All other major characters featured in the game are voiced by the actors who played them in the movie, including Marlon Brando (posthumously) as Don Vito Corleone, James Caan as Sonny Corleone, and Robert Duvall as consigliore Tom Hagen.<br><br>The Wii version of the game features a few upgrades in terms of environment and gameplay. Gamers direct the actions of their onscreen character with the Nunchuk and the Wii Remote; using a variety of hand gestures to accomplish such tasks as fighting back, strangling someone, using a shotgun, driving, and pushing people out of the way. Players now have a choice of professions, and they may walk the path of an Enforcer or direct from the shadows as an Operator. Each career comes with a unique skill tree where players can learn new abilities and gain greater control over character upgrades. A bit repetitive, but great
This is a great game for the Wii, taking full advantage of the motion-sensing abilities of the controllers. There is an incredibly wide array of moves to perform, which can occasionally lead to the game mistaking your attempt to strangle an opponent for wanting to club him with a left hook, but is a lot of fun nevertheless. You twist the remote (or press A if that gets old) to open doors. It's also used to aim and shoot with firearms, and shaking the nunchuk will reload your gun. You can grab people, drag them around, slam them into tables and walls, and even throw them down stairs, off roofs and out of windows, as well as strangle them, all with motions mimicking how your hands would actually do the dirty work. The game has quite a bit of replay value with its large number of skills ... This is a great game for the Wii, taking full advantage of the motion-sensing abilities of the controllers. There are also a ton of bonus features to unlock, including scenes from the movie. Hidden money bags, film reels, and bonus objectives give you an opportunity to play through the game multiple times while looking for new things to do. My first run-through of the game took close to 50 hours. The storyline plays around the plot of the movie, inserting a new character (you) who tags along with famous characters from the movie and does their bidding, ultimately advancing himself to the Don of New York City. You may go straight for the Mission/Storyline objectives to gain ranks quickly, and then focus on taking over New York one business at a time, or you can do the opposite, or a balance of the two. As for negatives for this game, my two biggest slabs of beef are the AI and the graphics. The Wii was not designed for incredibly realistic imagery, and this game is definite proof of that. That is not to say it looks like you're playing on an SNES, and for the amount of gameplay value Blackhand offers, it's not really a hindrance in any way, either. As for the AI, this is, sadly, incredibly terrible. Strangle a man in the street, then speak with the girl he was walking with. After a couple "How could you?!"s and "What's wrong with you?!"s, they will ask how your day has been so far. Many characters, even more story-relevant ones, mimic this behavior and lack any sort of real sensibility. As with the graphics, though, this is rarely a hindrance and can often be used to your advantage. Overall I would compare The Godfather: Blackhand Edition to a cross between Hitman and Grand Theft Auto. As you commit crimes, your heat in a neighborhood will rise until eventually the entire police force is after you. Other missions require stealthy maneuvering to reach your target, who must be taken out quickly and quietly. This is an awesome game that I would recommend to just about anybody. Don't let some negative reviews scare you off - it's a cool one.

EA's The Godfather: Blackhand Edition is an average game released during a more than spectacular launch period for a system. I will not waste my time on a review of the core game, but how the Wii is incorporated into the game since it is a port from the older versions of The Godfather. But I may let stuff slide.... Graphics in Context (for a Wii title)-4 Better than any other game I saw for the Wii at the time of purchase. Creativity-4 It was a great book and movie. Creatiively weaving in a character that was not a part of the main story was done well. The character is really an integral part of the first movie... if he was really canonical Sound-3 Major glitch that has the game played on mute save for the sounds of cars... Also the voices still play even after a characters died... Voice recording is superb but repetitive... Controls- 5 Superb. The controls are responsive, immerse you in the game and hardly fail to deliver. Integrating the Wii remote and using it to aim and shoot improves the aiming and shooting aspects of the game. But, when your batteries run low you can't play very well. One gripe was the A button being used for so many things: Like stealing a car, talking, bribing... But it gets annoying when you have to talk to somebody but instead you walk towards the nearest car and throw the driver out. Fun-4 Using the Wii Controls to really simulate the actions is great fun. Bribing cops and taking part in all the mob action was great. All in all this game is pretty good for the a first generation release/ port, but It was too glitchy for my liking (I never even used cheats and it froze up)

Except in this version, gamers can hire a personal body guard, employ a four-person hit squad, blackmail the police chief, plant car bombs, throw Molotov cocktails and dance in the rain (thanks to dynamic weather). Players embark upon ten new hit missions, among other attractive features. This doesn't include all of the things EA improved, which include more destructible objects, better animation and more World Events (new bank robberies, for example). With that being said, the motion controls stand out as the most attractive draw, thanks to the increased interaction. Players switch weapons using the nunchuk's analog stick and aim their guns with the remote. To head butt, they grab onto someone and bring both controllers upwards, simulating the motion. To throw objects, they actually mimic the action by tossing a pretend weapon (not the remote, of course). Not only does this feel satisfying, but the controls always respond, adding to the enjoyment. Driving, on the other hand, remains traditional. Gamers accelerate with B and steer with the analog stick. This works fine, but lacks the excitement found in the on foot controls. Still, jacking any vehicle and making a quick getaway has its share of thrills. Even with this new stuff, the game misses perfection, due to, at times, the moronic artificial intelligence. More often than not, characters walk into walls or engage in civil discourse while being shot in the back. Furthermore, Blackhand Edition's graphics (while not a negative issue per se) look considerably worse than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, with pixilated characters and environments. However, the game still has a top notch presentation, with excellent cut scenes, music and voice acting from the film. Even without the flashy visuals, The Godfather: Blackhand Edition represents the best Godfather game yet, thanks to the wealth of new content and improved controls. I'd recommended the game to newcomers as well as Godfather veterans.

One of the best Wii games available
As one of the few M-rated games available on the Wii, this games sets the standard on how action games can be done with the Wii controls. The motion-sensitive controls work great and the on-screen prompts show you exactly how to pull of the various moves. There are also tons of moves to unlock as you progress through the game; starting with the simple left/right punch to strangling your enemies, throwing them off rooftops, and executing them with various firearms. The story itself follows the original film faithfully, re-creating famous scenes such as Michael Corleone's meeting with McCluskey and the murder of Paulie by Clemenza. The world, while not as expansive as the Grand Theft Auto games, is sizeable, with the NPC's occasionally doing things aside from aimlessly walking about. ... For example, driving around Manhattan, you're bound to see a car accident and cops at the scene talking to bystanders. If you drive near the banks, which you can rob, you may catch a rival family attempting to rob the bank, only to break into a shootout with police. The only real downside is the camera controls. Unfortunately, the option to reverse the camera controls also affects how you aim. For example: pressing right on the Wii-mote will spin the camera to your left. If you want to change that, you can have 'right' spin the camera right. This will also change your aiming, by moving the camera to the right, the cursor will go to the left, which makes NO SENSE. Same goes with the up/down camera/aiming controls. Since this makes the camera worse, I recommend not changing them. If you're a more 'traditional' (ie hardcore) gamer and looking for something more mature to play on the Wii after finishing Zelda, this is definitely worthy of the purchase until Rockstar's Manhunt 2 comes out. Casual gamers should be able to use the motion controls fairly easily, but may frown at the amount of time it takes to play the game and do all the side missions (especially if they're used to games like Wii Play and Cooking Mama).

Great Gameplay with so-so graphics & camera issues
I really like this game. It has some of the best wii-gestures that I have experienced to date. Grabbing a opponent and throwing him around feel really good. The open-ended, GTA-style of gameplay works pretty well. I have only a few complaints. First, this is not a very pretty looking game. There is a lot of pop-up which makes driving around difficult at times. I frequently have to dodge vehicles that appear out of nowhere. Second, camera does not work all the time. It is sometimes hard to pinpoint off-screen enemies that are firing at you. Overall, I recommend this game.I really like this game.
