In a time when Islam is under attack from within and without, A Jihad for Love is a powerful documentary, filmed over five years, in twelve countries and nine languages. This, the first feature-length documentary to explore the complex global intersections of Islam and homosexuality, was filmed under great risk. In many nations with a Muslim majority, laws based on Quranic interpretations are enforced by authorities to monitor, entrap, imprison, torture and even execute homosexuals. At times employing undercover style camera-work to access a broad depth of Islamic experience, A Jihad for Love looks beyond a hostile and war-torn present to reclaim the Islamic concept of a greater Jihad, which can mean 'an inner struggle' or 'to strive in the path of God'. Director Parvez Sharma and producer Sandi DuBowski will be in attendance for our Australian Premiere of the film and forum discussion.
